Quick training question...

British Pilot

Hi Folks

Once you got your PPL, IFR (and ME), how did you build enough time to meet the minimums to start your Commercial?
I thought I would take advantage of this and work on Skymates 100 hour multi time building as a cheeky way of building some ME time while getting to the TT minimums for the CPL. As it happens this isn’t an option since insurance requires 250 hours TT with at least 30-50 hours in type.

I suppose CFI/II/MEI qualifications could help with TT….but how many hours will this build?

How did you fill the gap between the ratings? Your thoughts are welcome. Right now I am thinking of renting the Piper Arrow at the FBO and flying 100 hours of pleasure flights...

1) Take all your highly paid friends for $100 hambuger flights, and give them the privelege of splitting the cost with you.

2) Attend fly-in events. Builds up hours, gives you lots of good XC experience, and usually provides you with a nice pancake breakfast.

3) Do some flight sim training - keeps the cost down, and you're allowed 50 hours of it toward your 250 hours Commercial.

You could do dual-crews with another pilot trying to build time, rent a cheap C152, or find a part 141 school that can do it in less time.
