Questions about Utah Valley State College

I talked to them today and hey said the most they can give you is 16 credits unless you have your ATP or a type rating.
Most of the time the people you talk to on the phone have no idea what they are talking about. I am holding the paper in my hand right now. PPL through MEI gives you 30 credits.

The same is reflected on my transcript.

Could you pm me the name and phone number of the right person to talk to? I spent about 20 minutes getting transfered around and ended up talking to someone who said 16 was the limit. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you register for the class then you must finish by the end of the semester, or take an incomplete. Then you have one year from the incomplete to finish.

If you already have the rating or certificate then it is just a matter of completing the quizzes, tests, and submitting a copy of your certificate.

The problem is that Pell/Stafford loans don't give you nearly enough money to do anything more than one or two per semester, so to do it quickly requires extra money, usually in the form of a unsubsidized student loan.

I understand that. If I went beyond Pell/Stafford (I would probably do my PPL in one semester, then speed it up) I could get things done faster, oui?

I applied today.

Plan as of now is to do PPL Locally+One other class, Then perhaps WhiteAir/SkyMates/??? To amp it up over the summer/fall.

Hah. I like to get things done. I've completed every requirement except for them receiving my transcript (applied to have one sent from my previous school) and 'meeting' with an adviser..

Luckily I already filled out a 07/08 FAFSA and just had to add UVSC to my list of schools. PieceOCake.

Thanks for answering all my annoying questions. I honestly got them easily answered by just talking to UVSC, but that's beside the point :D

If by requirements met you are referring to the UVlink registration requirements page, check that thing often, more requirements often pop up after you thought you had all your boxes checked.

I had to prove that I was a high school graduate three separate times because that system is jacked.

Okay, so I was basically just told that I cannot get Stafford loans specifically for the flying in the degree. That doesn't seem true to me..and is the complete opposite of what I have been led to believe (by UVSC)... Why did I fill out an 'Aviation information form' for Federal Financial aid?

At first they didn't give me enough Pell, only enough for going half time. as soon as they fixed that, they readjusted my loans to take away what the correct pell amount fixed... I'm actually getting LESS MONEY than when I called to try and fix my Pell. WTFO.

So, unless I can get them to fix it, there is no way I'll be flying any time soon.

Keep at it, I swear getting the money to fly is a hell of a lot harder than actually flying.

Was the stafford a no go because you are living at home and your parents make more than Minumum wage and you have to list them on the forms???

That is really common.

No, my EFIC is *0*. I've received max subsidized loans every semester I've needed them. He simply stated that I can't get the stafford loans specifically for flight training, and that the flight training can't count towards my school budget. I did get stafford loans, but only enough to cover the 'budget' they gave me (which is for residential students living at home..) I'm like, WTF? What's the point of saying I can get Federal Financial Aid for flight training. I wish I hadn't of called and just waited until my registration went through, this probably would have fixed my financial aid award.

I honestly think he didn't know what he was talking about in this situation, as the adviser who did my loan counseling made it seem pretty clear that I would be getting loans for flight(and he was helping me figure out how I could get the most)

I'm going to call tomorrow and find someone else to talk to.

were you talking to Aviation financial aid or the Main financial aid office?

HUGE
difference.

Unfortunately, I was talking to aviation financial aid (at least I THINK so, I was transferred over after registering for classes). Either way i am going to try and call back tomorrow to get a different answer.

Good to hear the praises for the Online program. I just applied today, and will continue to fly here in Phoenix...if I don't melt that is....

Here's another question I just thought of. I already have my PPL and IR, but am a Vet. and planning on continuing to use my VA bennies for flying, but how would I word it when it comes to financial aid to get enough cash to continue flying?

Anyone still checking this thread?? lol.

I'm almost done with the whole app process...dude I talked to in the aviation financial aid office said max I could get in stafford loans from the school is like 5K....But I already have my PPL and Instrument..so here's the plan...

Use my GI Bill to pay for tuition....
Use whatever award I get for my Commerical this summer...
Also use my VA benefits with the whole 60/40, so as to stretch the 5K....

Does this sound doable??
