Questions about FAA Wings program

Okay, I'm supposed to start a FAQ for the Wings Program and I'm looking to see if anyone on here has any questions concerning the FAA's Wings program?

Ok, what is it?

Uh, Wings. That was a really cheesy sitcom starring two dudes whose names escapes me and Crystal Bernard. Supposedly they operated a small airline out of Nantucket.

I wonder if they based it in part on Cape Air?

Yes, Brian, they actually had things called sitcoms back in the day. It wasn't all reality TV.

"you are aware that there's an invention called T.V., and on that invention they show shows?"

Come on...name the movie!!

I know ... I'm not answering them now ... they're going into a FAQ we're putting together.

But this is for YOU guys so keep 'em coming!

I second the question. What is it? All I remember from a long-ago checkride is that participating in it counts towards your BFR (maybe?)

So:
1) What is it?
2) Who benefits from it?
3) What are the requirements to participate?
4) Is Wings an acronym for something?

Galaxy Quest?

Hmmm, not Galaxy Quest. It's driving me crazy, too. I can even HEAR the line being said, but I can't place WHO is saying it....

Anyway, the FAA Wings program (probably stands for something, but I don't know what) is basically a program to promote GA safety. You fly for three hours with a CFI. One hour in the pattern, one hour doing stalls, etc, and one hour under the hood (I think, it might be something else). Throw in a boring FAA seminar (although I opted to shadow a controller in the tower), and you're done. It counts as a BFR, and I think some insurance companies may give you a break on premiums if you do it every year.

If I have the wings sheet filled out in my flightbag still from a seminar that I went to about 1-2 years ago with everything but the date of the seminar can I still send it in?
