Question for Hotdog on a stick pilots

Qbicle seat warmer
I have a question for the Southwest folks here. Are you guys having weight and balance issues with the -700? I feel like there's some doubt as to whether or not I will make it on, even if there's seats open. And it's a weight and balance issue.

I’ve been hearing that since last summer and never actually not made it, but they always make it sound like it might not work. FWIW it’s going to AND from LAS.

Heard the same about PHX.
Something to do with ZFW and seats not assigned boarding

I was commuting with one your coworkers the other day and was saying he and passengers ended up getting bumped.

Yeah new pax weights started over the summer. ZFW and landing weight issues with the -700, almost didn’t make it to work the other day because of it.

The CSA should clear you for the jumpseat if requested and available regardless even if they are anticipating weight problems. They have a job aid order of removal if you need to come off at the end.

We can usually make landing weights work but the ZFW problem sucks. I’ve heard UAL has higher weights due to assigned seats. I’ve also heard a fix is coming but it will take them changing the flight planning software which is still several years out.

I’m not holding my breath for that one.

I'm curious how it plays when someone suggests a switch to assigned seating at Southwest. Are there "cultural factions?"

Thank you. That makes sense.

Apparently we don't use abbreviations in the training and post training world. We just spell it out and called it basic empty weight. Never heard of ZFW abbreviation, that must be 121 world language.
mostly...FWIW I believe Piper printed one for the Seminole, just for training purposes (or it could have been something the flight school requested, again for training purposes)

ZFW is just what it sounds like; everything except fuel. Pax, bags/cargo, galley carts, etc. There is a max ZFW because the fuel in the wings actually adds support. You run the tanks dry while over max ZFW, you could over stress the wings.

It appears the Seminole doesn’t have a zero fuel weight, but the Duchess did. It’s been far too long for me to remember if it was actually an issue. Both the PC-12 and the LR45 have a max zero fuel weight, but with the reduced seating in the medical configuration we’ll never run into it. I suppose in a PC-12 commuter configuration and 2 crew you could, although you’d have to fueled for a pretty short hop (MZFW:9039, MTOW:10450) Edit: I guess 1400 lbs isn’t exactly short hop fuel.
