Question for Delta guys (new hire)

I always do the walkaround but I've noticed more and more CAs offer to and take the walkaround when it's my PF leg. That's the added benefit of being a small base of 53 crews. :)

Perfect answer.

Any captain worth his salt should walk around on the FO's leg.

Not all do. But as a career-FO (so far) I add this to my mental "good" parts of what CAs do. It is one of the things I will try and make sure I do as Captain because as a FO now I appreciate it.

I really wasn't captain more than a few weeks at my last gig, but you build a "Good Captain Book" and a "Bad Captain Book" and you'll find yourself mimicking what you'll see in the "Good Captain Book" and referencing the "Bad Captain Book" to see if you're displaying any of those traits.

I am lucky enough to be joining the team very soon. Ill be trying to get back to DTW, What would be faster, the 737 or the 757? And does it matter if I choose ATL or NYC as a starting base?
Thanks

It's probably a wash as to what will get you DTW quicker between the 7ER and the 73N, but I imagine your seniority will rise much quicker on the 73 since it is a growing category and the 7ER is supposed to eventually shrink.

And avoid a DTW-ATL commute at all costs. NYC should be much easier.

Just man up and select NYCM88B.

15 years from now, nobody will know what a 757 is, but there will always be an NYC88B category.

Do it, you know want to.

As for walkarounds, I've always done 50% of them, and when I was an F/O, I experienced similar percentages. While I don't want to rehash any sectarian violence, I do distinctly recall an experience during the early days of the DL/NWA merger. Our South crew was in the hotel van with a North crew and the Capt asked me if I did walkarounds as a Captain. I replied "sure". He looked at me dead serious and said....."You guys gotta stop that crap right now".

It was a pretty silent van after that.

I remember talking to another captain about my heated telephone call with flight control during the Ice Capades in DFW a few months ago and how I was slipping on the ramp during the walk around.

"Stop. What in the hell were you doing outside in the first place? They're all going to expect that".

Good. Go get your Fitbit steps. :)

A's and B's. They're all retiring alongside the 747. Later skaters! :)
Not all will retire with it...

And MSP - DTW is terrible. I hear MSN is a nice intermediate stop these days.

When I did it a few years ago it wasn't too bad.

@Seggy funny you say that. I just got an ear full from Mrs. Griswold about how we need to move.

I meant those guys that I was talking to that missed their commute. Sorry for the confusion. Actually, screw that, no I'm not! Learn to read my mind! :)
