Question bout process...

I think PUBNAT 9 will be out sometime around 2033, when the next wave of retirements kick in.
Actually, they told me to reapply in February when I failed my PV. However, that has probably changed now.

Will I reapply? Probably. Will I be past 31 when I get a new AT-SAT retake? Probably.

Does it ever bother you with how long you've been waiting?
...

I know exactly what you mean. I can't think of any other career where people are expected to wait so long. I try not to think about it, as the depression of putting our lives on hold for about two years would be overwhelming.

well i just made a call to the aviation careers division in okc and asked when pubnat 9 was scheduled to happen!! and they told me it will not be this fiscal year.

That's not surprising. After PUBNAT6's group, PUBNATs aren't a viable way of going in anymore. Sure, some people will make it, but the majority aren't going to get picked up. If you're serious about a career path in the FAA and you don't have a TOL, you need to look at CTI or the military. That's just how it's become. Or better said, how it's always been -- the surge of OTS hires was temporary (and always was intended to be, albeit not in such a dramatic manner).

Jermscentral tried to caulk the wagon and float it.

DISASTER!

Rostafarri has drowned.
Raydon has drowned.
Flying Writer has a snakebite.
A thief has stolen your FOL.

Well, at least Raydon and I don't have to put up with waiting anymore.

I never knew you could reapply after failing out of OKC.

They sometimes counsel people who are about to wash out of training here in the field to resign and reapply in a year. I believe that you can then be picked up under a reinstatement bid.

You still need at least 52 weeks on the job to qualify for REINST, though, right?

Yeah, so you'll have to be out of your probationary period before you wash out. But if you are out of probation, then they're supposed to try to find another lower-level facility for you. That's not a guarantee, though.

The reason it is worded "may" be reassigned to a lower level facility, is because they are not talking about people already at level 5-9. It is my opinion, that people at 5-9 will not be offered a low level facility because they are already AT one, and can reapply under reinstatement. Those at 10-12 facilities will be offered a lower level facility.

Just my take on the whole thing...

Been around since pubnat2 (Feb. 2008).......still waiting, TOL in hand, medical done, MMPI-2 done....just waiting for FOL....

Don't quit your day job! <~~ server @ a restaurant...

The length of the process doesn't bother me (but I would have no right to complain anyways I'm only PUB 8). Has the federal government ever been efficient? Hah! I'll just enjoy life and if the rest of the process ever happens, follow right along. If you're dead serious about ATC, consider CTI. Having that advantage would be pretty nice.

I'm considering it myself. The school I applied for gave me 90 credits for my bachelor's degree and multiple credits for my private pilot license and instrument rating. They told me 1 year full time. Next year I'll be looking into it seriously.

So is 4 months normal to not hear anything after your ATSAT? Im waiting on a geopref email right?

It is right now. We're all on hold for an indeterminate amount of time. Don't be surprised if you're waiting 4 months more.

Lemme guess... liberal arts degree?

90 credits... toward CTI requirements, right? Not another bachelor's? Nice to get that and the extra for your PPL. What school is it?

Duh, your degree's right there in your sig.

Man, with an engineering degree, you should be able to get all sorts of work, even if it's short term. Seems like you'd be a shoo-in as a mechanic. If you were up here in Seattle, Boeing'd hire you pretty quick.

You would think so, but it's not the case. I've been looking and applying for anything and everything in the US since May '09. Boeing has retarded online applications that never seem to get me anywhere. I've called them up and they just tell me the only way to get in is by applying online.

Trust me, I'm not limiting myself to Colorado. I'd move myself to Seattle at my own expense and work 2 weeks for free to get a job in this economy. If anyone on here has any job ideas or connections for Aviation or Engineering-related jobs, I'd love to hear about them. All my doors are open, only thing holding me back is getting a chance for even one interview.

People just aren't hiring when there are 20,000 people from each of the major aerospace companies that got laid off. They generally aren't going to get people new security clearances and train them when they have people they let go they can just fall back on when things get better. Maybe that will change when the baby boomers start to leave. But a lot of them lost half their retirement savings and are working longer than anticipated.

I've officially had my TOL for over a year now. Glad I spent 600 bucks to go to NY for the "Fast Track". My drug test expired over 6 months ago, my med/psyc expire in april. Took a redirect in sept 2009 thinking it would get me in faster (usually the case) not so much for me. Day 652 of the application process. Still getting canned emails about how no one knows anything, but I suppose its better than hearing nothing at all... EM has been great through this process, but I cant help being a little bitter towards it all.
