Putting All Your Eggs in the FAA Basket

Is it just me, or are some of you guys getting a little hysterical about the long wait? I understand there are some circumstances that creat some hardships for people the longer this process takes. But man alive, enjoy your time at home and with your families while you can. OKC might just seem like San Quentin :)

hehe. I *kinda* agree. I remember queeno from PUBNAT 1. He (I assume) and ATLTRACON were constantly trying to warn us about getting involved with he FAA, although ATL wasn't as brutal with his choice of words. But for what it's worth, queeno, my husband was picked up by ZAU and said everyone was really nice and helpful when he toured the facility last month. If hats where you retired from THANKS for opening up a spot for him. Maybe we'll see you around Aurora sometime! ;) I'll buy you a *cheap* drink since we won't be getting paid what we deserve.

no i left ZAU in 2004 for C90, most of the controllers at ZAU are very good people .its the idiots running it thats the problem.one of my peeps is a FLM and he said training is screwed up by ERAM,but training was just as screwed 25 years ago so i guess nothing ever changes.

if he has a chance tell your hub to try for the north east or the east area, i worked north east when i was there, good people there plus they can tell him OG (that was me) stories.

i never told people not to work for the FFA just watch out for that evil side of the coin that most dont want to belive.when do you plan on getting into town ,i can show you where you dont want to live.ill PM you my e-mail if you want to get a hold of me.good luck

thanks at least a few of you got it,sounds like there too many up tight folks on here, makes me wonder how they are gonna deal with all the stress( like being a trainee which is the worst thing to be).
 
Sorry I am a little slow to post, heck until just a few weeks ago, I did not not have time in the past year and a half to post on here regularly. I'm sure when I reach radar training, I'll be gone again for a while again.

Reality check for those in the process who have not yet made it or are just arriving at OKC.

You are entering a career full of bitter people. The higher the level facility you go to, the higher the bitterness. Go to Chicago, Atlanta, New York, or any high level facility and you'll see this quick. This is a stressful job. It wears on you quick. Most that have been doing this job 20-30 years are not going to paint rosey pictures for you. If you can't handle your dream of being in a fun filled atmosphere being shot down by some old bitter controller, you should find something else to do or make sure you get some low level facility.

All this being said Queeno, your bitterness cracks me up.:)

From the CPCs and developmentals I have spoken with in my area and at my future facility, your opinions seem to be the exception as opposed to the rule. I respect your opinions and can somewhat empathize with your disgruntled opinions of the FAA, but as Doug said above, we're trying to stay friendly and more importantly, helpful to those who are looking forward to taking this career path, regardless of your experiences.

LOL, I knew one that controlled there and was a tower sup at KRFD before he retired in '04. No, your not anywhere near as bitter as some guys I know.
 
It must be hell sitting on your ass all day making "85%" of ATC salary lol...

There is nothing to be bitter about, it's over. You had one of the shortest careers available which also happens to be a well paid government position. Call me an optimist but I prefer to look at the benefits and not the anguish...

You should use some of that dough and take a vacation to Africa. It kind of puts things in perspective when you are sitting here pissing and moaning about a career that paid out 100+ grand a year, dealing with the stress of that ain't when you think about people that can't even put food on the table... How about the stress level of that?

Quit whining and go find a forum who cares...

hay are you gonna be like the one we got that said he had ATC experience because he was a supervisor on VATSIM? i can still hear them laughing at that one.

nothing like being lectured by someone whos never pay his dues :rotfl:
 
It's people like the above poster that make me want to do this job that much more, just to prove that no matter where I'm controlling or how busy it is, I"ll be thankful for what I have and not complain about it.

We get it. You were a controller in some of the busiest airspace in the nation. But guess what? Just like you don't care what a CTI/OTS applicant has to say about the job, none of them care about your hatred and animosity toward the agency you worked for either. You're retired now. Get outside, go do things you've wanted to do during your career that you didn't get the opportunity to do. Why waste your time on an internet forum bashing people when you're just going to be ignored anyways? It's pointless.

So why don't we drop the piss-poor attitudes and get along and try to help those out who have questions? Isn't that what this forum is for? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I found this website one of the most helpful places about choosing this career path without your negative input, and I plan on "paying it forward" for those who plan to do the same.

Just thought i would stop by and say that it only took me a year from the time that I put my application in to the time I arrived at the fornt door steps of ZTL, so I don't see what the fuss is all about.:beer:
 
er....it's been over a year and we have to start over again...so looking at another year.

Umm..if I were on that time line I would've been in OKC in February.
 
Different people get different time lines based on facility staffing, facility slots at OKC(yes every facility gets a limited number of slots at OKC every year, that comes first before you), willingness to take hard to staff facilities, and a ton more that only the people in charge can understand. One thing to understand is just because you apply and take the test, doesn't mean your entitled to the job. When they want you, they'll bring you in.

I'm in the fast track boat, took me 10 months from app to OKC, but I also applied and got to OKC before the terms PUBNAT and PEPC were even known. Completely different process.
