Putting All Your Eggs in the FAA Basket

Dare I keep the bantering going back and forth, however I will explain to you MY personal reasons for being excited about a job with the "FFA"

First and foremost, I have a love for aviation and anything related to it. Being around or involved with this particular field is something I have always wanted to do since I was young enough to point at the sky and shout "AIRPLANE!"

Second, the idea and possibility of becoming an ATC is something that excites me. Not only because it's a job that your average joe does not have, but it's a challenge. It's a career that is going to push me mentally, and being the type of person that I am, I look for a challenge.

Regardless of placement in the rankings amongst other government agencies, the "FFA" is one that is responsible for the well-being and safety of millions of lives every year. I plan on taking pride in my job and in knowing that I will be doing a service for the people that may or may not know the inner-workings and hard work that pilots, controllers, maintenance staff, flight attendants, and many others that I have not mentioned put into their jobs every day.

From the CPCs and developmentals I have spoken with in my area and at my future facility, your opinions seem to be the exception as opposed to the rule. I respect your opinions and can somewhat empathize with your disgruntled opinions of the FAA, but as Doug said above, we're trying to stay friendly and more importantly, helpful to those who are looking forward to taking this career path, regardless of your experiences.

:yeahthat: Couldn't have said it better

oh drop the ra ra sis boom ba, what you think your the only one thats ever taken pride in the job.you think your the only one that wanted to be a controller, you think us old timer were always cynical about the FED,spend 25 years in ZAU and C90 and then tell me about it.FSM isnt even close to the center of the ATC world, there happy cause they dont have to work a lot of traffic and make good money for the area, try being an OTS at C90 or ZAU.oh and there is nothing exciting about atc, if it is than your doing something wrong.

You know, I get that you have been in the business of ATC for a long time, and it may get boring and monotonous, but was it at least exciting at first? I know I enjoyed what few months I was lucky enough to train/work. My dad has been a controller for about the same amount of time as you, and still enjoys going to work every day. I know many of the guys on his specialty, and they all still ,more or less, love the job.
What's your deal? Why did you stick with it for so long if you are bored?

When you said that you thought there was "nothing exciting" about ATC, deductive reasoning lead me to think you were bored.

You are really here to try and get a rise out of people, aren't you?

I never said that I was going to be a big shot like you. Nor did I say I was going to retire and brag about it, all while flaming some internet forum about how awful the FAA really is. This forum obviously isn't the place for you. I think the local retirement center or Wal-Mart cafe would suit you just fine. :D

I like the FSM area, and perhaps one day I will move on to a busier facility. I'm glad that I was chosen for FSM because it's a nice facility, the people are great, and it seems like a good area to get a feel for my future career.

Again, I'm sorry you feel the need to get on an internet forum and berate potential employees of the FAA with sarcastic remarks and a sorry attitude toward the agency that gave you gainful employment for 29+ years.

I think maybe grammar school is the place for him.

Urg...

...indications of your attitude

after 29 years 3 months and 27 days

You were counting the days...people don't really count down to when good things end

it feels great to have my life back

So this job robbed you of a your life...doesn't sound like a job you enjoyed

why waste your time putting up with the bull the FFA is dishing out

So what do you mean by this exactly...because it seems like you're suggesting we shy away from this job completely

my way of getting even with the FFA

Getting even...for what...we know they are inefficient and don't care...but for you to say this we're guessing that they slighted you personally or that you blame some dis-enjoyment on them...and well...that seems to suggest again that you didn't like you job.

Look, we're not trying to say that you're wrong, your feelings are unfounded, or that the FAA isn't a totally lame agency...

We just don't want your buzz kill...okay?

Why would you come to the application forum to brag about retirement anyway?

This guy will always have a negative outlook (I honestly find it hard to believe he was ever excited about his career). And now he has all the time in the world to sit at home complaining while getting paid!

He reminds me a lot of the 20-year bitter, jaded captains I used to fly with who just can't understand why the airlines don't want to pay them $300K to fly big shiny jets around the sky.

Life is all about expectations. Some people have reasonable ones; some don't. Maybe he should take this time off to get a hobby. I hear there's a lot of good books out on the market these days:

I've been hanging around pilots and controllers for 10 years and 90 percent of them aren't half as bitter as you.

Just do us all a favor and go find create a Bitter Jaded FAA Employees Who Still Collect Their Paychecks forum and post there. The rest of us are excited about our futures and don't need the attitude.

I'm out -- it's a great day outside in BOS!

I wonder if the Ammolite train will be stopping by here anytime soon?

But I digress...

To those of you still waiting, I can only hope that October comes for all of you sooner rather than later. I understand your frustrations of waiting, the uncertainty, and all that. Just hang in there!
