PUBNAT3

I don't understand why people were thinking there would be a panel meeting right after and pretty much during the PUBNAT2 process. Yes, PUBNAT3 closed in May but that doesn't mean that it is on the same pace as PUBNAT1 or 2. You're going to have to wait for the complete process to go through before you hear anything. PUBNAT1 went through all their PEPCs before PUBNAT2 received the GeoPref email and that still took another month and even then they had problems sending out those emails. PUBNAT3's may be waiting the longest, sorry...

So we might get the geo prefs by thanksgiving? Lets be optimistic. This will happen, it will just take a long time. Has anyone applied for jobs with TSA?

Well, crap.

I just got this email when I asked the e-mail address on PUBNAT3 about panels.

So why on earth were we hearing November?

Ammolite, what did you hear at ZNY about November panels?

The NATCA rep. told me that he heard there was an upcoming panel in November, and that was all. Considering that I knew PUBNAT2 would be done this week, I assumed it had to be for us, and was just verifying what I'd heard on here. It couldn't be a panel for nobody.

Now, I'm doubtful. What would the office even DO for three months? Paint their fingernails?

Take whatever people tell you with a grain of salt. Not to say that the nacta rep may not be right, but people say a lot of things. I wouldn't be suprised if they didn't do another in the next few months with the holidays coming and all. People are gone all the time etc etc.

As for what they could be doing for three months...their is never a shortage of paperwork to be done in government. Just because we are not seeing it, does not mean nothing is being done :)

They still have plenty to do with PUBNAT1 & 2. If i am 25 deep just for my facility of getting a class date, they've got enough to keep them busy for a while to come.

The NATCA rep. heard it from an FAA HR person in OKC.

Also, I don't give a @@@@ about what they are doing; I just know it's not what they are supposed to.

I know this sounds silly, but I'm sick about this whole thing. :(

It's downright unfair that those who submitted their apps. a mere three weeks before I did get to hear their fate over THREE MONTHS before I do!

are you getting close to the age cut off? if not, try to look at the glass half full. if this is a career you're passionate about and plan on being in for many years - when you look back at this hiring process you'll realize it wasn't really that big a deal. flawed probably, an inconvenience, minor. what i keep reminding myself is I'm the one wanting to work for FAA not the other way around. Now on the other hand if you are approaching 31 that does suck and I can only hope time's on your side.

Hello everyone from the pubnat3 group I'm patiently awaiting information as well. I have reason to believe that we will not recieve any info untill december it only makes sense. the oklahoma course is every 3 months and pubnat 2 just got their ref list on sept. 8th three months from then would be early december ;however, I have also realised by reading a bunch of posts that 80 percent of everyones "inside" information is wrong. who knows tho I have been waiting two days to be able to make posts so I have had plenty of time to review tons of posts from pubnat2 and 3. I just want to confirm tho everyones status if I could I wonder if anyone is trying for the miami center as I am. Geo prefs I believe are by state so is anyone else FL bound?
I dont want to do tower Im looking for a enroute posistion.

good advice ohio avaitor :yeahthat: I agree I bet they figure if you cant handle a little wait you should'nt be doing this or your hearts not in it so be patient. The wait isnt any easier for any of us but if your give up you wouldnt recieve the reward of becoming a controller and all that comes with it. They probably have an order to their madness at least I hope they do.
PS Ohio aviator I'm from Columbus, OH. I noticed your from dayton. are you trying to become a terminal controller or are you looking into being enroute in cleveland?:nana2:

Hi MIA bound!

Actually, even though the course is long, a new one starts 2 or 3 times monthly. Everyone from PUBNAT3 does not attend the same course.

Here is the current schedule for en route classes:

Make sure that's where you really want to go. Miami and Oakland centers are the two that you'll consistently hear are the worst ones to work at. Training backlogs and stuff like that. Have you contacted any NATCA reps from Miami or other centers to talk with them?

I've spoken with a dozen NATCA center representatives for different facilities and I have asked: what one center do you recommend I do not work at? The answer has been Miami every time but one (when they said Oakland). Often they would answer Miami and Oakland.

...are you trying to become a terminal controller or are you looking into being enroute in cleveland?:nana2:

i selected both terminal and enroute options, ideally i'd prefer a mid-level terminal like Dayton but I'm willing to take just about anything.

I'm starting to wonder about the November vs. January panels thing. I heard good info about November, but now it seems like the same people are saying something different. I'm starting to wonder if it was pushed back or something.

I know that it's unpopular to say that the wait is frustrating, but I'm just going to say it. I know that it's government, we should be prepared to wait, etc etc etc. But still...this is getting pushed back so much now that I could conceivably see PUBNATs 3-5 being combined at the January panels. However, maybe if this happened in January it would still just be PUBNAT3 and the later PUBNATs are just in for an unreal waiting period.

But let's say that we end up seeing announcements considered together at panels. There would be more competition. More folks with new and high AT-SAT scores. Because of that possibility I'm liking the wait less and less.

Then again, there could be a bright side if this happens. I have an application in for each announcement. I wonder if that would lead to more places to select from at once. I would assume that we still get considered for each announcement and that they don't pool names from all three and then eliminate them so that they only consider you once at a panel. What I'm getting at, is:

Normally we get two geographic preferences, and one picked for us at panels. Then if we don't like that, we'd have to decline the announcement and wait to be considered for the next one. However, if PUBNATs 3, 4, and maybe 5 were to be combined for January, we would be getting geographic preferences for 2-6 places and then 1-3 offers after panels.

That could work in our favor because we could pick so many different places and avoid the odds of getting excluded because we picked a city that isn't hiring or something. Or we could pick several safe bets and one or two cool places we'd like to go.

For example, I think Hawaii would be cool, but HCF probably isn't hiring so normally I wouldn't risk putting it down. And ZBW is one place I think about, but I don't see many people getting picked up for there so I had been planning on putting another center in as a safer bet. But if they combined, I could put in ZNY, ZXX (whatever) for PUBNAT3, HCF and ZBW for PUBNAT4, etc. I'd get something.

What do you guys think about this possibility?

Maybe if the government put a $700 billion price tag on ATC hiring process things would go a lot faster.

After sleeping on it, I don't know that I am going to fully believe the January panels bit just yet. Not until I hear verification from better sources, at least.

If it's true, then it makes this process more akin to the pyramid theory than I had originally imagined. The amount of applicants they'd lose during the extra few-months wait would be significant -- though perhaps, all of us on this forum are serious enough about this position to wait, the average Joe/Jane is NOT. They've already paid for each of our ATSATs at $300 a pop, so if they have many "casualties", they'll have lost money on us. Then again, my old state university spent hundreds of thousands on a marble fountain system and stadium lights while an incredible, donated 40' telescope sat in our physics/astronomy dept. basement, because no one would pay $5,000 to set it up properly, so such decisions aren't always the most intuitive.

I wonder if someone heard the panel date for PUBNAT4 (as January) and has been reciting it as gospel to others. Perhaps, that is where this "rumor" began. If you count according to the timeline, it would be identical to that of PUBNAT1/2, from when their announcement closed. Just an idea.

Also, I was told vaguely of the latest issues with the FAA...and how they're now contracting out training. If they're waiting for bids, etc., then it is possible that this is responsible for the delay.

It cannot be financial, seeing as this is the beginning of the fiscal year, and they should be hiring the MOST of us now!

Does anyone remember the particular reason why those from 2007 had to wait a good six months in their process? I know it was before they took their AT-SATs, but after they were selected to take it. I believe they applied in July, and had to wait until February...?

Maybe if the government put a $700 billion price tag on ATC hiring process things would go a lot faster.

No kidding. 700 billion...what a joke.

Assuming there are 12000 controllers with an average pay of 120k...they could have paid for the 30% paycut for 16 years (not including the interest they would have earned or saved on the unused portion each year probably stretching it closer to 20-22 years) but instead they will shore up an imploding lending and banking industry for months as opposed to 20 years.

Gotta love the way the government works...oh we can't pay you what your worth but...

we will send 22 billion to Africa to fight aids...instead of just locking our borders.

We will spend who knows what fighting in Iraq and then rebuilding it...and get no oil or funds in return.

We will spend $700 billion putting a band-aid on a bunch of companies we shouldn't have let get that big in the first place...

But heaven forbid we actually pay some professionals what they are worth!
