It depends on your particular facility need, if you are OTS, CTI, or VRA, and how fast your clearances get in, which depends on any number of issues. They can't give you a class date until all clearances are in, then it goes off facility need and type of hire profile. I just went to PEPC in KC, I was told by HR that if a person is off the street and going to DFW, the wait from last week is AT LEAST 18 months. However, if they are going to Oakland Center they will most likely be in by Feb. If their clearances are in, of course.

At my PEPC, I was sitting next to a Navy controller in the Security room, and he asked this same question. The lady told him that his clearance wasn't good enough, and they would have to start another one.

It all depends on what agency did your clearance. If it was done by OPM then the faa can use it. I have a SECRET with the air force which was done by OPM. I got my FAA clearance in 4 days.

Are you guys putting different geo preferences down for PUBNAT4? It just came out. I don't want one of the two to get eliminated, but I'd like to put down four states to increase my chances.

I'm not putting anything down until I get an answer from the FAA. This could be crazy awesome, or not that great. Need to make sure.

thats a very good point Honu, unless someone finds out for sure i would only do one set...just to be safe. i received two seperate emails as well for 3 and 4. who knows though..they are so unorganized over there right now maybe you can submitt 4 different states and be put on 4 different lists.

I will definitely submit both, but maybe just both saying the same thing. But if both are being considered, I might keep PUBNAT3 with the places I was seriously considering and PUBNAT4 with "reach" places that I'd really like to go to but am not banking on having free positions.

yeah i would do the same thing...put the real choices for NAT3 and wishful choices for 4. like im gonna put down Utah, and Colorado so i can go SNOWBOARDING ALL THE TIME!!!!!!!! haha...its awesome

Well, I put down ZAU and ZID for pubnat3. Then ZSU and ZME for pubnat4. I honestly would be happy to go to any of these locations and don't have a preference for one over the other, so I'm hoping that choosing 4 different places plays to my advantage. Chances are one of these places will be willing to pick me up.
It seems that if you were to pick the same preferences for pubnat 3 and 4 you would be dangerously limiting yourself. For instance, if your facility preference does not select you from the pub3 applicant pool, I doubt that when they see your name again from pub4 they are going to change their mind and select you. Just my .02. I could be wrong.

True. Then again, if there are facilities that you really want and the FAA decides to only consider you once at panels, they could potentially throw out one of your applications. If you only put the facilities you want for one application, and that's the one they toss, you're out of luck.
We should all call around and figure out if they'll look at 3 and 4 separately or if they'll check to see if you've applied to both and only consider us once. It's going to make a huge impact on what our strategy should be for selecting facilities.

I selected the same places for both applications pubnat 3 and pub4 it seems as if what you guys are saying makes sense. That I should change my pub4 prefs so that I heighten my chances; however, I'm still curious to know if anyone has talked to anyone recently about pub3 and pub4 and if it even makes a difference if I chose diff places???

Dose anyone know what the hiring process for a military Air traffic controller is? I am considering giving up my full time slot with the NYARNG so take a part-time slot in another state and become a 15Q (ATC). If that’s the case a take a huge pay cut and have to end up flying across the country one weekend a month. What do you think I should do?

Will your guard unit let you cross train? If you want to go active then talk to a recruiter and see if he can get you in. I know AD controllers get huge bonuses to stay in and of course there is the retirement too. But I fully understand if you don't want to go active...6 years of that crap was enough for me. You can also move guard units without too much hassle so you wouldn't have to fly cross country to get to your drill weekend.
