Pubnat 5/6

PEPC Packets are out! Check your e-mail guys. Everyone should be receiving the following:

FAA Form 8500-8, Application for Airman Medical Certificate.
OF 306, Declaration for Federal Employment
DOT form 1631, Disclosure and Authorization Pertaining to Consumer Reports Pursuant to the Fair Credit Report Act

Oh yeah, by the way, it is confirmed .... Chicago PEPC will be held at 2300 East Devon Avenue.

By the way, is everyone faxing all their paperwork to the PEPC Center? The 8500 Form is really small to read and I am a little hesitant that it might be inlegible when faxed?

I haven't posted on here since the previous PUBNAT, but I figured since I missed applying the week of PUBNAT 7, PUBNAT 6 was my last chance of getting into the FAA. I turn 31 August 2010, and with the crawl the FAA has trended towards, I'll probably never get a chance to join the crew.

That said, the process they use is outright discourteous, and downright discouraging. From what I can gather, and I've been at it since PUBNAT 1, the process is a complete crap shoot. Rather than interviewing all qualified candidates, thus narrowing down potential employees, your TOL is basically the invite to the interview, which is of course, asinine at best and flies in the face of any good buisness decision. They could be hiring a bumbling idiot who scores well on tests.

The qualifications to get an invite is shady at best. I thought I was a shoe-in, with a Masters degree, a 97 ATSAT, and thorough work experience. Alas, it wasn't good enough with the "review panels", which is another psuedo terminology. Seems to me, it's who you know, when you know them.

Of course, there's another road block. You have to transform into Miss Cleo to somehow "know" which areas of the country need air traffic controllers presently. I stupidly picked NY too many times. Dumb move.

But, thats my rant. Congrats to all those selected. I'm sure you'll do a great job.

You all should be going to the Great Lakes Regional FAA Office. 2300 E Devon Ave., Des Plaines, IL. Here is a link to where you should be going. You'll walk all the way to the back, go through a guard gate, then the building will be on your left. It's a little tricky to find so I'd recommend going the day before and checking it out if you have time, if not, taxi might be a good idea. Good luck!!!

....I sense a small amount of bitterness in your post....

I especially like these words of encouragement that are not at all biased or opinionated

It's alright man, no need to give up yet. There's still hope for 5/6ers. more emails could be coming out next week.

I think you bring the paperwork to the PEPC, if they want you to send it in prior to the PEPC, protect yourself and send it certified mail so you have proof they received it. Just a thought.

OK guys and girls here’s the lowdown on the PEPC forms.

FAA Form 8500-8, Application for Airman Medical Certificate.
do not fax this form in, you will complete an official carbon copy form at the PEPC, but fill it out before hand and then just copy all the info onto the Carbon copy form.

OF 306, Declaration for Federal Employment
DOT form 1631, Disclosure and Authorization Pertaining to Consumer Reports Pursuant to the Fair Credit Report Act- fax in both of these forms and also bring back up copies to the PEPC.

Also Fill out your E-Qip electronically and release the Document via the
E-Qip website as instructed. Bring the authorization form at the end of the E-Qip to the PEPC. This Form authorities a Background check and needs to be singed and dated.

*You must fax in your OF 306 form first in order to be granted access to the E-qip. So you should complete the 306 ASAP and fax it in because it takes about a week to get E-Qip access. I also recommend filling out the Sf85-P for Terminal and the SF-86 for en-route first and then just transfer the information to the E-qip when you receive access. Be aware that Terminal fills out the SF85-P and en-route fills out SF-86 for E-Qip

En-route Form Below

**be sure bring copies of all these forms to the PEPC and copies of any arrests, court ordered drug or alcohol treatments or medical issues, if you don’t you clearances will be significantly delayed. I cannot stress enough the importance of having all your documents and paper work in order.

***Also review the interview questions post. The questions in that post are practicality verbatim of what you will be asked in the interview.

GL to everyone and don’t worry too much, it’s actually a breeze.

While I can see how the process of individually interviewing 3,000 people is basically impossible, I agree that it seems a bit unfair. I'm sure that everyone selected will be just fine, but it does irk me a bit to see people on here who are going to be controlling planes I fly on, that can't figure out which version of there/they're/their to use.

It's mostly jealousy, and I fully admit it, but it does seem unfair that I'm sitting here with a Masters degree and wonderful attention to detail, while there are people on their way to a PEPC that can't manage a single post that doesn't contain at least 7 typos.

The whole process is stupid in my opinion.. it's like a lottery..

You think this is bad? My brother's g/f is trying to get into the U.S. Marshall Service. In order to even be allowed to apply, you have to sign up for a seminar. To get signed up for the seminar, you have to call into a call center within a 2 hour window on a certain day (during business hours, I might add), with only 3 people operating the phones (or something ridiculous like that), and the seminar is first come first serve. So if you can't get through on the phones during that time period or if the seminar fills up before you get signed up, you are screwed till next time.

On another note, I still hold out hope that more emails will be going out for Pubnat 5/6.

sorry to hear that, but my guess is they may view you as overqualified for the job.

What's their median then? I have some pretty decent work experience (not too much, 4 years working GM at a restaurant) a 97 on the AT-SAT and wasnt selected for PUBNAT3/4 and it doesnt seem like i will for 5/6 either?

So am i unqualified?

There doesn't seem to be such a thing as being over-qualified for this position: I have a Masters, and 4 years experience as an accountant and senior analyst for a financial firm. I scored a 100 on the AT-SAT, and I was invited to interview for Pubnat 5/6.

Let's just hope that there are more invites for 5/6. If you haven't already, be sure to tour your desired facility and get to know the ATM and/or a couple of supervisors, to increase your chances for future pubnats.

Of course there is! It's not about whining, being jealous, or any other ing or ous you can use to describe someone. Fact. The process is inherently flawed. I think a proper "review panel" that vets people correctly could viably interview hundreds of well qualified candidates, therefore making informed decision on accepting certain candidates over others. Even the godforsaken census inteviews thousands of candidates for crew leaders prior to an offer. Same process too- civil service test, wait, interview, wait.

I am in no way saying anyone on this board is a "bumbling" idiot. Honestly, if you're on here, you must really want the position in the first place. I'm just fuming over the fact that I can't physically speak to anyone in this process. At the very least, I'd like to interview. I know I blow away any of the FAA's "qualifications", especially OTS. So that reason alone is why I am here posting bitterly about the process. It's extremely discouraging to apply for a position, that you know you can excel at, six times, and not hear a peep from the organization.

Well, like I said previously, I think it depends where you applied. Also, did you, by chance tour your desired facility?

Here is my advice to you, take it for what its worth...

If you REALLY want this job and are not getting picked up of any PUBNATS, think about enrolling in a CTI school.

I would do that, but A) costs tons of money to do so and B) I'm pressed against the age limit.

Also, did you attend a CTI school?
