Protocol Question - finding JCers on my flight

So I was on a Republic flight this morning - an e175 out of PHL (flight 3297) and I know that there are quite a few Republic crews who frequent the site. At least, I think there are.

I didn't want to bother the guys while they were doing pre-flight, so I asked the FA to pass a question up to the flight deck - were either of the pilots posters/members of JC?

I figure if they had no idea what I was talking about, they weren't, and if they were, they'd know right away and maybe I'd have met another JCer.

But this was the conversation, verbatim:

FA - "Well, I can't ask them right now..."
Me - "Oh, of course not - I understand they're very busy right now. Maybe during cruise or some time at the end of the flight?"
FA - "...But...y'know what? I can't ask them that. And even if I could, I doubt they'd want to answer. Sorry about that. It's not going to happen."

Her body language and tone changed toward the end of that, and while she was certainly polite, I got the distinct impression that this would be a futile course to pursue. The CA and FO were gone before I could catch up at the end of the flight. So I smiled, said thank you anyway, and watched my TV shows on the laptop. But I was annoyed, mostly because I can't figure out if this was bad thing or I was just ignorant.

1) Did I do something wrong?
2) If I did, what's the right way to ask if the crews are JCers?
3) Would it annoy you if a passenger was asking specifically about JC?
4) Were you, dear reader, part of the flight crew on 3297 today? :)

Interesting question, KB! When I was a gate agent for CO at EWR, I always wondered how many of the crews were members of JC. NEVER had the b%#&$ to ask, but I often wondered anyway! That being said, I don't know what the harm would have been to her to ask the crew. Sounds like she was just being a bit bitchy.

What a hag! Just for that, I would have projected a rather impressive stream of vomit at her while she handed me my cup of Diet Coke 30 mins into the flight.

Maybe something subtle would work best... like a JC-member flight crew scotch-taping a small sign with the JC symbol to the flight deck door. Only JC members would notice this!

Unless you need an STC to tape something to the flight deck door.....

Naw, she was nice enough about it. I mean, she wasn't being rude, and I think since she obviously didn't know what JC was (though I did explain it) I think she was just erring on the side of caution - from what, I don't know. Never attribute to malice what can be explained by ignorance or incompetence. Take your pick in this case.

Yeah. I thought about that. 'Twould be cool if we had our own version of the Death Eater dark mark or something...

She probably had no clue what "JC" was, or what being a "member" of JC meant. It's possible she was a little scared maybe and not sure what to think if JC was like a fraternity or a Freemason or whatnot?

Sadly there's also F/As out there who for some reason have an attitude about pilots. I have no idea where this attitude comes from, but there's some F/As who'd rather chew off their left pinky toe than carry on a conversation with a pilot.

It's hard to say without having been there......

Or wait for the DING! of the seatbelt sign turning off. Then immediately bolt to the front of the plane like hell's chasing you then and slip a note under the flight deck door ;)

......

This was my same experience about a year ago. I am waiting in a security check out line at SLC and I noticed the woman behind us was wearing some Airline Identification Picture ID tag. I made a comment how I thought they should have a separate security area for her to go through in stead of waiting in line with the rest of us sheep. She smiled and made some witty comment about TSA, touching my arm and taking a half a step forward. She went on about being an FA, the travel was good but pay was poor. Went on about how it was easy on her because she was single, touching my shoulder saying you can imagine how hard it would be tied down in a job the requires you to travel. Then she asked what do I do? I told her I was considering going to a flight school suddenly her body language and abruptly changed. I thought wow! what did I say?
I causally turned away and checked my breath, no not that, my pits as I acted like I was stretching - no not that, Well maybe I was just over reacting. But then my 15 yo daughter said, wow she was hitting on you hard I was about to call mom on my cell phone but you sure pissed her off, what did you say?.......

What about flight kit stickers or small logo stickers for badge holders, or even a pin of some sort? Is any of that cafe press-able?

See, this is what I am always so upset about when people say they dislike their job....it shows to passengers. And if the pilots want to be rude about it even if she did ask them, they should be fired. There was no sense in that. I don't care how off the wall the question is, I am never above answering it to the best of my knowledge and ability. Even if I wasn't a member, I would have not minded that you come to the front and asked. Unless we were pressed for time, I would have even started a conversation out of it to learn something new. Anyone that feels they are above doing that doesn't need to work for the airline...FA or Pilot. I would imagine that lady has never had a hand written letter inserted in her file from a passenger for being nice to someone.....

Do you have one of those on your flight kit, Bob? I've got a JC luggage tag but it's about to get replaced with an Express Jet one.

Nah... believe it or not... I've still got an old COEX tag on my flight kit... guess I really need to update that since CHQ is now COEX too. :)

That's right.

That's RIGHT!

Oh, sorry . . . couldn't help it . . . :buck:

My flight kit is still too new for me to do anything with it . . .

1st, unless you said JetCareers, she may have thought you were part of some religious group (JC) get it.....

Your options are:

Carry your JC-Dar :D

Walk on the plane and shout: "JC in the hiz-ouse"

or you could just sport this:
