Prop Strike @ LAX

If this was Colgan there would be an outcry that they were unsafe.

What could've happened? Just like the Mesa -8 in PHX destroying the GPU. Just because you're pulling into the gate doesn't mean you don't have responsibility for the aircraft. Someone on the flight deck should have been paying attention.

I can absolutely see how the skipper would have thought he was clear of a piece of equipment only to nail it after his marshalers didn't warn him. I'm sure he knew it was there, and there's no reason to be looking back to the left to make sure the ramper is not marshaling you into something; your eyes belong out front watching where you're going.

If that wasn't the case we wouldn't need marshelers.

If our ramp at LAX is anything like our ramp at SFO, I think its overdue. If I had a $1 for everytime I saw a wingwalker texting...

A prop on a United Express (I think) prop hit the terminal at LAX a few minutes ago. No news links yet.

I'm really having a hard time figuring out how that could have happened.

Thats what happened to one of Mesa's Dash-8s in Denver, which was pretty funny. Dash pulling into park, rampers waving them forward -- all the sudden an improperly placed GPU just explodes, the airplane shakes violently and the lead ramper makes an X sign with the flashlights. They still suspended the FO, because "he should have seen it."

what if he was drunk and purposely did it? wouldn't it be criminal then? I'm not making any more assumptions than you are with the fact that it's the rampers fault....:dunno:

I don't really know anything about criminal law, but no I don't believe it would be.

How else are we supposed to deliver boxes? Fit them into an inefficient cylinder of aluminum and hurtle them through space? I like my flat sides and leaky FO escape hatch with testicle-removing windshield wiper conveniently located directly where my bum would slide down in the case of emergency egress. Besides, I'm out of aviation causes that begin in the one hundred series (121, 135, 141...)
