Apparenty Transport Canada wants to slap him with a $5000 fine. They are trying to figure out if his comments was directed at the female pilot or the faulty mic. I'll let yall know how this one turns out.

I am sure if he was so quick to shoot from the hip, in the tower/facility it is quite common to have a good swear off the frequency. We all know the job is incredibly stressful - I say apologize, and call it a lesson learnt.
The pilot who said it was aimed at the mic is a legend - great bit of diplomacy!

I unfortunately think the call was directed at female pilot. The controller got impatient and lost his cool. Turns out it was his stuck mike. Usually I understand high tension situation and getting upset, but this really takes the cake. This woman already is in a male dominated field and having to hear that can sure hurt. She handled it very professionally. I am glad that the air canada capt spoke up. If nobody had stood up and said anything it would have been a shame.

I didn't personally hear it, but I know a guy from my college's flight program who had a stuck mic on Tower's frequency for a ridiculously long time...something like 20 minutes. It was right after spring break and he was going on and on to his instructor about the wild times he'd had in Cancun. Women, alcohol, you name it...
If you knew the guy you'd think it was even funnier. He was a lousy pilot, but super outgoing, hilarious sense of humor, always had a story to tell, always cracking jokes...the kind of guy who always ended up in funny situations for some reason.
I don't think much came of it, aside from the tower calling the flight school, and some major embarrassment on the student's part.

Why is everyone getting so bent out of shape. You know we are saying the same thing when they wont clear us direct, when they want to take us out on a 30 miles final on the go home leg, etc etc...I always assumed they were cursing us sometimes, and now I know!
WELL SAID. The only people who can get upset at this are those who have NEVER badmouthed someone else behind his/her back.

I have to agree here. While it it, more or less, obvious that this guy was not cursing at his equipment
, the fact is that he got caught out saying something that wasn't intended for public consumption.Now granted, when you are in an environment whereas a lot of what you say is going over the airwaves, not to mention being recorded, I think I would be particularly careful that what I was saying wasn't going any further then I intended.
But in the end of the day did he do anything that EVERYONE on this site hasn't done at one point or another (Not verbatim, but in general)? I would think not.

You've heard the cliche' about "timing can make you or break you." Well, in this situation, bad timing may be his demise. It may be one thing to "think it." No one will argue that point. It's another thing to verbalize it. Hypothetically, would the same comment been said by the controller if there were gender opposite controllers in the tower? In aviation, I believe we'd say he "lost" his situational awareness.
The comment was offensive/inappropriate regardless of where it was directed. The controller should resign himself to the fact he's going to receive punitive action and work to minimize that punishment. In my opinion, he'd lose credibility trying deflect who/what the subject of his comments were being directed.

Thought it or said it? This guy potentially facing a stiff fine for a "remark" made on an open mike. Are you saying these types of comments made on the open airwaves are commonplace? I'm inclined not to believe.
