PROFANITY and NOT SAFE FOR WORK Toronto Controller with stuck mic!

You oughta hear some of the dumb stuff pilots say when they have stuck mics!

it'd be nice if there was something that lit up when the mic was 'hot' sorta like on handheld radios... a sign 'xmit' comes up

Probably a pretty good idea!

It'd sure beat tapping all of the oxygen mask bins and microphones in the cockpit to see if you've got a hot mic in the cockpit.

In the Embraer, we have a "STK MIC" warning that cuts off transmission after a period of time... I think it is two or three minutes. The red warning comes up on our Radio Management Unit. I've seen it once; luckily it was only on ops frequency.

Thought it or said it? This guy potentially facing a stiff fine for a "remark" made on an open mike. Are you saying these types of comments made on the open airwaves are commonplace? I'm inclined not to believe.

No, you misunderstood my my meaning.

I was pointing out that most people make comments, often lewd comments, about others, and that the fact that this guy did such a thing should not be a big shock.

I was also pointing out that, while it is one thing to think or to say things, it is another thing to make remarks where there is a potential for such remarks to be overheard or, in his case, broadcasted.

So, the point was that people make these kind of remarks all the time, but this guy's comment just got some airtime he wasn't expecting.

This is like road rages next cousin. You should hear some of the words ive concocted as i make my journey to work. I really dont think that some of the people are #@!$@#$ but it helps, serienity now!

:yeahthat:
Agree with you wholeheartedly.

I unfortunately think the call was directed at female pilot. The controller got impatient and lost his cool. Turns out it was his stuck mike. Usually I understand high tension situation and getting upset, but this really takes the cake. This woman already is in a male dominated field and having to hear that can sure hurt. She handled it very professionally. I am glad that the air canada capt spoke up. If nobody had stood up and said anything it would have been a shame.

Anyone else have any stuck mike stories? None here...yet

That's a pretty hefty assumption that the male voice on freq. was the captain!

Oh wait, women can't be captain....I forgot. :sarcasm:

Uh oh! You aren't the guy on center that occasionally says, "Use your big girl's voice!"

I thought the guy who had the 32 years of experience was some OTHER guy in a difference airplane who also had a freq change....

On another note, you guys do know the difference between MICrophone and MIKE, right?

I'm not usually a spelling nazi, but this one really bothers me.... its MIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahaha.... phew! feels good to get it out of the system.

They had a stuck mic on Ramp 5 in ATL today, I called 30.07 (one of the other ramp freqs, they all sit next to each other in the same tower) to tell them he had a stuck mic on ramp 5. We were trying to push and she said, "I think it's an airplane that has a stuck mic, but if you think it's up here tell me what he just said."

I was able to tell her that he said something like (how do I make this G rated?) "That dude is full of #$&*, my mic is fine!" I didn't repeat what he said word for word, but I thought about it. Do they record the ramp TX anyways?

Best part about it all, we had a fed on board. I was the only person there who figured to flip to another freq to let them know ramp had a stuck mic. He was irritated because he was trying to get home. We had to bump some PAX just to make sure he could get on. Nice.

We've all felt the stress before but to drop the c word that quickly was shocking!!! That's one word that has always been taboo, at least to me.
