prelim plans for NJC

Doug's decided to take on the planning of NJC this year. He doesn't really want to move it out of LAS and he would rather have it stay under the JC umbrella. That's understandable.

he's not sure yet how/what he wants to do but we do know that Pengy is willing to set up tours again...so we will hopefully have some tours (doug will put the sign-up sheets online once dates/times are squared away).

As it is, it's looking like this years NJC is going to be more of a *fun* weekend where it's just a weekend of friends getting together...no registration or fees, no JC sponsored suite/party and everyone reserves their own hotel room...there will still be networking going on and craps money to be won, that much i can guarantee!! :nana2:

i do think it would be fun if we all stayed at the same hotel, if we can make that work. question is... where and should we all book now?

I put the Austin thread in the Admin area.. if you'd like me to move it to the M&G area so you can use it to set up a M&G, let me know and i'll do that! :)

we'll do our best to be there! I vote for the Sahara again. It was cheap and the tables were cheap, and it wasn't a huge casino to walk through. Plus it was on the monorail which is a bonus in my mind!

well, not to say that he won't still need some volunteers to help out! HAHA

I think we'll be staying down on the 4 corners area...heck, if we book now, we can get those cheapie rates Jim brought to the table...wait, let me find them...here they are

looking at the travel sites and hotel websites, there are plenty of rooms in Vegas now (for the NJC period) showing under $100.

Just looked at the rates:

Monte Carlo $89/night.
Flamingo $67/night.
Sahara $46/night.
Terribles $49/night.

Plenty of good rooms at good prices. I think the last year NJC was at the Bellagio, we paid $110 for the Monte Carlo.

The sahara was ok...i'm thinking with the rates as they are now, we might be able to get some really good room rates down the strip if we book now (and cancel later, if needed). I'm even thinking about the Hawthorne again cuz they were ok rooms, down in the right location with happy hour AND free brekkie.

AWESOME!

I will be there

Will be staying in that area as well. The Monte Carlo is VERY nice and reasonable!

BTW, count me in! I would be available to help Doug if he needs assistance, especially once we get there!

I'll vote for the Monte Carlo! Nice place, great location.

The Hawthorne was nice, but was a bit too much of a walk for me. Then again I was pg and I was tired and my feet hurt.... can't believe the baby I was pg with then will be 4 next month!?

I will be there, aloha.

And you know, with the economy the way it is, the second tier hotels are likely going to have to do something to put people in beds. Sure, the Bellagio and the Wynn and the Venetian will likely be able to fill their beds. Even there, you don't know because the high rollers those guys target have a lot of their money tied up in the stock market. If you were worth $10 million and now you're worth $6 million, you're still wealthy but you don't feel that way.

But places like the Mirage, the TI, and the Monte Carlo aren't going to be as lucky. Come to think of it, Harrah's has a lot of debt to cover. Anyone check out their rates?

Again, I'm going to tentatively say i'll be there.

So......let me know where I gotta go make a reservation. :D

Hooters was cheap a couple years ago. Cocos nice and close. But the MC is a good bet too. Sahara is too far up the strip in my opinion...not worth the savings if I have to stumble 2 miles up the sidewalk dodging the guys slapping the hooker cards on their hands.

You don't. It's right off the monorail.

It's definitely seen better days but if all you're looking for is a place to sleep, then it's just fine.

Besides, don't you know that even hotels fighting for a five diamond rating can have all sorts of bedbugs and nasty smells and crappy food that makes you puke?

Want to guess what DVD set I got for Christmas?
