"Power tie" or no?

Oh, I'm with you there. Charcoal has always been considered the other preferred color for interview suits. What you should avoid is light navy, light gray, brown, etc. Too informal. And black is for a night on the town or a funeral. Not for business.

Generally cannot go wrong with Navy Blue or Charcoal. Further - I posted "wear what you're most confident in". ATN was correct though - the "standard" is Navy or Charcoal. Why be a test pilot? Where whatever you are most confident in - between Navy or Charcoal.

"Where"??? :p

It depends on the company. For example, my employer specifically mentioned in the interview email that it was "business casual." It meant no ties, and it showed in the interview. Our pilot group doesn't have ties or hats, so I wouldn't expect someone to come in with a full suit and tie. An open collared shirt, tucked into some slacks, and a business coat serves well. Being a 'red' company, I went with a maroon collared dress shirt, in black slacks, and a sport jacket that I took off after entering each interview room (they asked you to, and relax).

I actually do like seersucker, got a few shorts of the like, if I could get a cheap seersucker suit I'd be all over it.
