Possible instructor layoffs?

Overheard that numerous instructors were lacking adequate students this semester and that UND may let some instructors go.

Not so fast. With many full-time instructors having 1-2 students this semester, layoffs could be a very real possibility. There is talk, but I don't know where it's coming from.

That would suck if you'd get furloughed from a CFI job, but hey, it'll give you "real world" experience and know what it's like when you go to the airlines....

Hmm. As an instructor here I have heard zero talk about this is any Flight Ops meetings we have had as a group or with our individual lead instructors. I would think they would tell us something. If I remember correctly an Air China class of somewhere around 60 is coming here sometime very soon as well as a new Tokai class of about 25 is coming in April.

Ok, Well I'll let you the student tell me when I don't have a job. I wont listen to any of the management only you can tell me because apparently over hearing random people talking about layoffs takes precedence over first hand knowledge. Maybe I am just out of the loop though but you can PM me when they lay me off. Thanks:)

Are "full time" instructors really only getting 1 or 2 students? I don't know how you could put up enough hours to be full time with only 2 students, even if you rode them hard and put them away wet.

I just think it's funny that you expect your employer to be honest and upfront with you about things of this nature. I'm shocked that you have so much faith in the management of an aviation organization.

Even if they don't "lay off," giving all the full-time CFI's one student will have the same effect.

Rule 1 of aviation:

Management is scum.

NAIVE. just how UND likes them!

I didn't get any new students, I have a full load of finish ups and some air chinas at various places in their training. Plus stages, so I have enough if the wx cooperates

It's to bad that UND has to go to Chinese students in order for its flight school to be full. A dramatic change from when I was there just a few years ago.

Lack of chinamen at the airport? No way! Maybe they are getting off, i mean studying on theCessna cockpit posters. :rotfl:
