declared an emergency soon after take-off (engine trouble), so fuel starvation is a possibility. Ditching (if able at all) was probably the better choice rather than attempting to put it down on that narrow busy highway and getting into a head-on collision with a beverage truck. They apparently crashed 11NM away 1,500ft from the coast line.
