A lots of missionary work down there, I'm wondering if that's the case here.
Talking about "secure crash site" :eek2:

They crashed in front of a Jesus sign...

No fire with that much damage?
Good question, there is however a puddle around the aircraft, don't know the nature of it (rain water perhaps, sewer ?). {Edit} the fire department used hoses to clean the scene, so I assume that explain the puddles. The non commercially rated pilot :ooh: declared an emergency soon after take-off (engine trouble), so fuel starvation is a possibility. Ditching (if able at all) was probably the better choice rather than attempting to put it down on that narrow busy highway and getting into a head-on collision with a beverage truck. They apparently crashed 11NM away 1,500ft from the coast line.
The air distance to the destination is just 20NM, driving takes up to 3Hrs because of the poor road infrastructure + distance (60 road miles). There is also the ever present threat from gangs.
Sadly, one of the deceased, a pastor and taxi driver in Canada had just lost a son in December to a Ferris wheel accident.
In reponse to this latest accident, the Aviation Authority of Haiti has grounded all private flights.
