i think you mean MCO don't you? or is ORL the municipal airport code (I always forget!)

so they say one is in serious condition - does that mean the other is ok?

I think so,

Yes it's true - the C-172 they are showing on Channel 6 is N9336H.

They tried to put it down on Dubsdread Golf Course and hit a telephone pole - took the left wing off at the root.

You can see the video at Local6.com

No details yet, but I will post anything that is officially released.

And I was scheduled to fly that plane tomorrow ...

I have some info but I have not been given permission to release details. I will say that one of the occupants died on the operating table an hour later.

This is the first fatality in the 25 year history of the CAP Flying Group.

my thoughts with the family!

My prayers go out to families and friends of the victim. See unpredictable this world is? The same plane you fly one day may be just pieces the next.

Hopefully the fatality wasn't a kid that is always hardest to swallow!

Kid or not it is still always hard to swallow. It is still hard for me to swallow the crash of the 2 instructors by PRC a few months ago. I talked to the chief pilot the day before it happened while I was interviewing out there. It makes you think harder the next time you fly...my thoughts go to the friends and family of the pilot who passed.

Do you know who was flying 36H?

I saw that video waiting to J/S home in the terminal tonight. Un-freaking believeable they got it on tape! I could't believe anyone lived through it.

The article linked above says the people onboard were Steve Schieber & Dan Lawlor, the latter of whom passed shortly after the accident during surgery.

It has been confirmed that Dan died last night. We have to be careful passing on information, there are families to be considered here. I do not recognize either of the names as they are printed in the local6 article. I've spotted at least one error - Showalter does not have any flight instructors, it is not a flight school.

Vaid I'm not sure what we can do. I talked with the group owners last night and asked the same question. They asked me to sit tight and they would let me know.

Steve Schreiber (the other pilot) is a very good friend of mine. Another friend called me this morning to tell me what happened, so I've been on the phone most of the morning trying to find out details. Steve works for Showalter doing line service and is a former ATA student (so some of you other guys might know him). He's been working at Showlater for almost two years now, and he's been building time working towards a corporate job.

From what I can gather from my friends, Steve had a plate put in his arm and surgery done on his face. He's in good spirits and is going to pull though. I didn't know Dan, but my thoughts go out to his family. If their roles had been reversed, I'd be on a plane to Orlando for a friend's funeral.

Glad to see that your friend wasn't the one, but at the same it is tragic that the other guy had to die. Do you think Steve will be flying again?

WTF?! The news woman on CNN said at the end of covering "Not bad for an amateur".

I just saw the video for the first time. It showed Steve being carried out to the golf course while the flight instructor stayed in the cockpit because they couldn't get him out due to the powerlines.
