Pinnacle

The Compass rumor is false. Atleast from any official channel.

I figured as much. 60 is a huge number of people and why would Compass have any desire to tell Endeavor about it anyway.

I am aware there will be plenty of people go to Compass but 60 in the next 2-3 months isn't likely.

Besides attrition, company statements, and any other business decisions, how is the day to day life as a pilot? Are things running smoothly? Are everyone involved in the overall operation easy to work with in general?

Day to day operations actually do run fairly smooth surprisingly enough...I've heard schedulers are bailing just as quick as the pilots but haven't had to deal with them a whole lot recently.

When I was there the operation was wildly improved over the Pinnacle model of "screw it, I just work here". It's even a little bit better than when Mesaba ran their airline because Delta insists on everyone communicating. Pinnacle was kind of feeling around in the dark (on purpose because light bulbs cost money!), Mesaba had the lights turned on and ran things very well, and Delta was about one step away from SMS'ing you that there's an aircraft swap, pick up your crap and go to gate 31.

As far as moral? It was bad, getting worse when I left, guys I talk to have their resignation letter written for if the JFK commute becomes real for them. I don't talk to everyone, and they are mostly ex-Mesaba, but they just didn't sign up for no future and commuting for reserve/line in NYC.

The airline does run surprisingly well but like @jynxyjoe said morale is at an all time low. The future is very unknown and on the surface doesn't appear to be bright.

I'm assuming you're in MN. If you're looking for an MSP base I wouldn't hold my breath. Everyone is being sent to NYC and even with 4 years in I can't hold Detroit anymore. I can't imagine how senior MSP is.

If you're considering applying PM me and I can answer any questions.

You can't hold dtw? Line holder at least?

I'm even hearing with the parking of the -200s one of the "old school" bases of DTW or MSP might close. Money is on DTW closing due to the "need to keep jobs in MSP" agreement Delta did as a result of the NWA merger.

The biggest surprise for me was that I might not even be able to hold a CA spot in DTW with 10 years of seniority. The bigger surprise was that DTW might be closing. If you had told me that in 2008-2012, I'd have laughed in your face since it's always been the biggest of the bases. Now? I could see it happening.

If DTW closes and those guys and gals have to start commuting to JFK/LGA, attrition might kill the place. Then again, I never thought people would stick after they closed MEM. Instead of going elsewhere, I here a lot of "The commute from Memphis sucks" stories. Yeah, hence the reason I moved. Friend that's a flight attendant said they've even cut it back to one LGA flight, and it doesn't go on the weekends. Funny how Delta went from "No! We have plans for Memphis! Build that huge parking garage and do the improvements!" to reducing MEM to just another outstation. I seriously think IND might have more flights now.

I've also heard the EtD program is an abysmal failure (as in a whopping 3 guys so far). If you read the fine print, you'll see Delta faster getting on with Compass, PSA or spending 5 years flying corporate than you would through the EtD program. With the parking of the -200s and a fleet plan of 81 planes, the place already has most of the CAs they'll need, and they're not going anywhere because they either already busted their SSP, burned all their bridges or just aren't motivated to get out. I mean, I was hired in 2006, and I'd be looking at downgrade this year or next year, assuming I wasn't already booted back to the right seat. I'd likely have the seniority to bid 190 CA here at Blue before I had the seniority to re-bid CA at 9E if I had stuck around.

Latest I heard is that it's supposedly illegal for them to give the permanent no to subsidiary employees. So now Delta may be forced to waste time re-interviewing guys they already struck off the list.

Ok...how is that illegal?

No idea. Probably some voodoo with still flying Delta passengers for Delta getting a Delta paycheck etc....

As you know, there has been a big push by some pilots to force 9E ALPA to request single carrier status with DAL to get a staple done.

Pinnacle has traditionally been the home of some of the most ludicrous, and least believable rumors in the industry.

Ha! That's a good one! There is no legal precedent where Delta has to give preferential hiring to subsidiary employees. They are treated just like any other applicant. Delta can write you off if it feels like it. I was at Comair when I got hired. I was not given preferential treatment of first look ahead of anyone else. If they wanted to tell me never to apply again, that's their prerogative. The only people that get preferential hiring at Delta is Delta employees.
