Pinnacle Corp., buys Mesaba

We're apparently seriously down on the CA side, too. It's my day off, and my phone was ALREADY ringing at 7:30 am. And just to highlight a point.....he TIMED OUT and only got 2.5 hours of credit.
Just "roll it over".

I kid, I kid.

Ooooh. I know what to ask for next time we fly together. :)

I just have an equivalent LED flashlight. How this guy gets a D cell flash light in his bag with the LIDOs and the CFM is beyond me.

Have you wife pack the bag.. I rock the big boy 2x D-cell mag light, LIDO's, CFM, FOM, sunglass case, and a tupperware container for the headset/passport/pens/love notes. Just give the bag and all the "stuff" to your wife and tell her to "figure it out". Mine did it all while I drank a beer. I tried to "teach" her how to do a LIDO revision after that and I got the look of death. Tread carefully.:yup:

Remember, I'm a former ramper used to packing a lot of things in a small area....I know how to pack things. You should see how well I pack my '02 Chevy Cavalier when I go on camping trips w/ the fam....

Hmmmm...that is an idea....have the wife do the LIDO revision...I'll give it a try-she might actually like to do it, but if I seem a little 'uptight' the next time you see me in MEM ops, you'll probably know the result.

Oh, F that. My wife can barely pack groceries in the car. Like KAB, my mad former ramper skillz kick in when packing. Plus, the above scenario would mean actually bringing my flight kit home. I prefer to leave it at the airport. It's a pain enough lugging around my 26" overnight bag and the laptop. :)

does 9E require you to have a flashlight in your flightcase and if so, whats the criteria. For example, at trans states they wanted us to basically have the 2x D cell mag light, and at Mesaba, just an equivalent.

??? Just did a pdf search of my XJ POM and FOM, and can't find anything about requiring pilots to have personal flashlights... I've never had one, as at least one of the 3 or 4 in the flightdeck always works. If they don't work, I write 'em up.

Each crewmember shall, on each flight, have readily available for his
use a flashlight that is in good working order. These flashlights are
normally provided on the aircraft.

Mesaba has no such requirement. I asked early on because I was from Colgan who required it. You don't need to carry anything.

Anybody around in the MEM airport today? Ive got ready reserve today and its boooooring!!

I'm off.....but I'll be there all day on Sunday feeling the pain you feel today. :)

Joe, they'll probably require you guys to have flashlights. Sure, they're on the CRJs, but they're declared as "emergency use only." If you're seen doing the walkaround with the flashlight from the flight deck, expect to catch major hell. By not using them, they probably get around a battery check or something that MX would have to do....

I hear ya. This is my second time this week too, freakin sucks.

At least you get some sort of credit for sitting there. :)

News down the pipe is the company is good with the one company, one list, one contract idea. Groups from all three pilot groups are doing the pro/cons with the contracts to find out what would be optimum for the three groups as a whole. Colgan's working on an interim deal with the company (ie the rumor the company is willing to offer them XJ's contract), but nothing on the 9E side. They "haven't said no" to the idea, but they haven't just come right out and said they'll do it either. They've agreed to a 45 day window of accelerated negotiations on the combined agreement (which, if reached, will be a ratification vote from all THREE pilot groups). If nothing is reached at the end of the 45 days.....well, welcome to the last several years of negotiations with us.

I'd like to get excited about it, but I've seen it multiple times before. Company says they're motivated, they lock themselves in a room with the NC swearing they won't leave without reaching an agreement, and nothing is done. The only real motivating factor is the shareholders are gonna come down on them eventually if they can't realize the "synergies" they promised from buying Mesaba.

Very interesting. I hope they go with that 45 day one contract idea. Let's get this done and move forward

And during the 45 days, if anyone from the company calls in sick then we should require them to bring a doctor's note when they return to negotiating.

If they call in fatigued, then make them fill out an online form and get their pay docked pending a review.

Just sayin...

:D

Does this mean we are abandoning talks for TA2?? From what I have heard from the DTW reps is that the union has been refusing to discuss anything with the company without a contract. That was supposed to be the "upper hand" we have been waiting for so long. This just seems like another excuse for the company to extend working under our current contract.

No, some sort of interim bridge agreement is still the plan. If they stretch 45 days into a year, we're no closer, so we need SOMETHING. From what I hear, they can't get their cost benefits from the merger without an SLI, they can't get an SLI without at least getting the 9E contract done, and they can't move planes en masse without the SLI. Another thing that needs to get worked out is some sort of scope to keep them from just moving -200s over the XJ when we don't have the people to staff it. N825AY is one thing, but if they start doing that with several airframes, we'll wake up one morning furloughed and XJ and 9L will have all the flying. Just my take on the situation, but this company has forced me to continuously think worst case scenario.

I think at this point, talks are shifting from focusing on a TA to focusing on some sort of interim agreement until we get an agreement that would cover all three pilot groups. I'm not a big fan since this would probably mean the $$$ stuff rather than the work rules stuff. We may get the FOs a raise, the CAs a little raise and the signing bonus, but the reserves will still have crap rules, no credit for ready reserve and no min day until the whole deal is signed.

I've asked about what the company's sick policy is for managers. I was told not to ask since I'd either bust a blood vessel or punch holes in the wall.

The best part on the fatigue thing is once it's reviewed, it can be "denied" and sent to base management for further review. It used to take 2 months to get your money taken out of your sick bank to cover a fatigue call. Now it takes 3 or 4.

I can just see already how this is going to down with our w2 signing bonus club. Is there any mention of retro pay for 9e in this? Personally at this point I would like to see the money allotted for that thrown back in the contract to help make it industry leading. Probabaly not a popular idea but we would all make more money over the duration of the contract. We have so many people stuck on this singing bonus.

Signing bonus has become a emotional staple at this point. The MEC STILL hasn't hashed this out (last time we brought it up the executive board wanted to talk it over first) -aka "cover tail"- and it is still an open issue. However the formula or whatever "method to the madness" works out every 9E pilot looks at the idea of $10M as "mine" on a grand scale. Anything less would be war and suicide on the part of any rep to allow out the door. Whether its $500 or $50,000; every pilot has a number in mind that they have emotional ownership to. It's been 5 years, don't even try to get between a pilot and a portion of what he/she has lost.

The MEC would like to get it out of the way and done before things get too.....inbred on the seniority list. The longer it drags out, the harder it's gonna be to separate out things like furloughed XJ guys in the mix on the 9E side of the fence. I don't think anything will pass without some sort of signing bonus. While I see the wisdom of putting $10M back in for work rule improvements, you've got too many guys asking things like "What am I gonna tell my daughter who wants to go to the expensive college?" and trying to buy that boat/airplane/RV/ex-wife.
