Pinnacle Corp., buys Mesaba

Well has anyone heard about the meeting today with the company?

18-24 month integration of XJ jets onto 9E certificate. The rest of XJ will be merged with Colgan. Company wants one list, two airlines, and two contracts. Good luck to us all.

One list and 2 contracts????

Yeah, I'm curious how they think THAT is gonna work. The scope clauses in the contract alone would likely be contradictory. What they REALLY want is an A contract and a B contract. The A contract has slightly better pay and work rules than the B contract, which has crappy pay and work rules. At least, that's my outsider's take on the issue. Personally, if the company wants one list, I say that's great. But it's gonna be one contract for ALL pilots. No reason guys at Colgan, XJ or 9E should get screwed one way and the pilots on the same seniority list have better protections just because they fly a different plane. I'd bet money the company wants a "Jet" contract and a "Prop" contract. Irony of the situation is, if we keep going the way were are, the "prop" contract would probably wind up being XJ's current deal and the "jet" contract would wind up being 9E's currently negotiated contract. In that case, the "prop" contract might be the better of the two.

I say we borrow Republic's set up, get one list, one contract and multiple certs. It's worked for them, so why try to re-invent the wheel. Oh yeah, we try to do that on a monthly basis around here.....

so why try to re-invent the wheel. Oh yeah, we try to do that on a monthly basis around here.....

That would explain why the ride is so rough here... Not only are they trying to re-invent the wheel on a monthly basis, they never get the first wheel to even work properly before they start again! :D

is it my understanding that this flow thing has to be worked out by 60 days after the purchase of mesaba by pinnacle, otherwise it automatically goes away? I know our guys are working hard to try and keep something.

I haven't seen anything in print one way or the other. Then again, the company is playing the "We've got a secret. Ha ha!" game again......

The secret is Delta is coming to buy us back next week. It was all a joke on us. Just a welcome to the Delta family! Normally they just steal your pension, but since Mesaba doesn't have one, they had to go over the top. Well done Delta, you had me going there.

Joe, at least this time you'll be around to wave the "colgan" management goodbye... Only this time you keep your sen. number - gonna be quite the day i hope :)

Do you really believe that? Thats what everyone was saying after the Pinnacle purchse, then it was "well they are staying for one year", and I've heard "two years and then Colgan management is out". Regardless, it's never happened, and they have never hinted that it would happen. The question is will it happen now? Not the slightest clue....

I just hope they send some Mesaba senior maintenance personnel to EWR to start taking notes and do a serious overhaul sooner rather than later...

I think that we will have a different set of people running the show from the top.. Mid level will prob. be a mix though.

speaking of Lido charts, have you 9E guys heard anything new about the EFBs you were supposed to get?

The chatter is always there but when the part comes to "submit payment" we hit the road lock. Last I was told by a credible source the company is looking at ipads. Yes, I'm serious and we aren't the only company looking into them.

this is correct, we use lido charts. Fedex uses them too. They suck at first and then they grow on you.

I like the AFC chart, and the taxi charts are okay (when they're actually correct). Approach plates are not as organized as Jepps. Briefing an approach has you all over the chart where a Jepp chart is a precise flow. Don't get me started on the arrivals/departures. Departures you have to flip between a couple of different charts to get all the info, and the arrivals are often either missing info or they're hiding stuff somewhere off to the side. It's normally important things, like speed restrictions.

I was okay with them for a while, and I've gotten used to them. That being said, I still prefer Jepp charts. That and LIDOs are god awful heavy and take up too much space. FedEx has them, but the paper charts are in the proper format (as in a ship set in a three ring binder rather than folded over in a Jepp binder that each pilot has to carry). I'll believe EFBs when I see them. Until then, it's yet another carrot in front of me. Instead of just clicking "submit payment" to help cut down on our new uptick in OJIs, we get a memo telling us to be careful and challenge people when we see them doing something unsafe. So, next time I see my FO carrying his flight kit up the stairs in the hotel because there's no elevator, should I stop him?

Please do! :D

But then again, I will end up not getting any sleep on a reduced rest overnight, calling in fatigued, only to have it not accepted... :insane:

Yeah, I heard about the latest "not accepted" trip on the company boards. Who'da thunk the "fatigue board" would be less forgiving than base management?

notice how with skywest they want to get asa and express jet fully integrated within 12 months and have planned to agressively do so. Our guys have said that it will be 18 months before anything happens. Why, becuase we have a pilot contract that has been in effect since 1999 with no new TA in sight. All one has to do is look at the difference in management to see which one knows how to make things work. I am not saying that pinnacle didnt do a good thing by this aquisition, but they will find some way to probably mess it up by having all three groups pissed off at separate things. Get a clue!!!!!!
