Pilots Loading Bags? Good or bad...

re: 121 pilots throw bags or no? (and some Allegiant stuff)

Can you explain why exactly you think that?

re: 121 pilots throw bags or no? (and some Allegiant stuff)

It really seems that (and this has already been said) there is an ongoing trend of people who know absolutely freaking NOTHING about the industry telling people who have a whole hell of a lot of experience in the industry how it is.

I don't think that even classifies as irony. Just dumbassedness.

Well said! This in my opinion is the post of the year.

If you do your job well, you should be rewarded. It doesn't get any simpler then that.

re: 121 pilots throw bags or no? (and some Allegiant stuff)

Yep...doing the bare minimum is cool.
I honestly dont think that you, I, or any other pilot on here who is not 121, have any merit in this. We are not 121, so we cant really discuss what is wright/wrong, lazy or not with 121.

If this is about CFI'ing, or 91 ops, then we should hop in, until then...

My airline had a loosely based 'merit type' upgrade. Before you speak on how great it is and why it is a good idea, and how this thread proves that, why don't you work at an airline that uses that type of upgrade.

But since when was loading bags part of a 121 pilot's job?

Did you get out on the ramp and load bags into the cargo bay of the Dash 8 when you were a flight attendant?

Did that make you lazy?

People can have an opinion, and even voice/write it if they like. No rule against that. It's just best to have an informed opinion.

I didn't say to not have an opinion.
I have many, some I voice, some make me look stupid.

As my main man Abe Lincoln said
It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt

This thread proves exactly why merit type upgrades are a good thing, instead of sitting on a number.

Tell me how your merit upgrade would work?
Fuel Burn - No - safety
On Time - No - safety
CA Reviews - No, not good for CRM.
Picking up OT - No, helps guys who live in base.
There is not a lot to our jobs.

You all, who load bags, might be surprised to know that one or two delay codes on bag loading usually fixes the staffing issues. Promise.
Not around here it doesn't. ;) We've had plenty of delay codes blaming us and if anything our staffing has gotten worse. (Yet DL decides to keep us around for some reason.)

There's an ASA captain I see around here every now and then that will come out and help us throw bags up the belt or help with valet bags which I kind of admire in a way. He's just out there helping in anyway he can to get his flight out on time and have a plane full of happy passengers, which might (gasp!) make 50 more people have a positive experience flying his airline. I always appreciated attitudes like his since there's a lot of guys that will just scowl at us and blame us for our company's shortcomings. I'm not saying flight crews should have to do this. And that's why I admire the ones that do it, because they choose to help out.

Wow this thread has really run it self off the tracks, hasn't it?

How many times are we gonna have this arguement. I have a feeling that it is not the last.
I don't think anybody is advocating that throwing bags should be added into the job requirements but does it really hurt to grab a gate check stroller or little bag once in a while? I think not, but hey I'm a NOOB and my ideas hurt the profession, right!

There are a LOT more problems in the world than thisi one folks!
