Pilot watch... which one?

I really wanted a pilot watch, but they are pretty cheesy. You'll never use the E6B flight computer, and you'll just end up looking like a tool. I'd much rather get a stylish good looking watch than a pilot watch. You'll have many more options too. Just my opinion.

try these:

I have the Citizens Blue Angel Ecodrive. I love it, it has three alarms which I use every trip, one to wake up, one to give me 20 minute warning and the 5 before van time, to leave. It also has a wiz wheel right on its face. I can see it when I fly at night when I turn on my overhead spot;)

I also put the digital onto UTC during the day so I always have local time and zulu. I bought mine off of ebay for around 150USD. He also needs sunglasses and a cool leather pilots jacket! My wife bought me the jacket for my birthday three years ago . . . And it is my birthday!

I wear an Omega Speedmaster X-33. The thing is absolutely bulletproof...I have slammed it all over the cockpit for about 6 years and it barely has a scratch on it.

I had one of those fancy pilot watches once, and I never used any of the features, so when it broke, I got this:

Virtually indestructable, never have to change the battery, never have to set the time, and I can see UTC and local time on the same "page". It even has an auto backlight (can disable it) so you don't have to push a button to light it up, just hold it at the "watch reading angle" when it's dark and it lights up. Did I mention you never have to set it?

This watch rules.

has a compass, barometer, altimeter, thermometer, chronometer, alarm

Hopefully you will fly in an aircraft that has all of the above instrumentation, and won't have to rely on your watch. ;)

I've been using a Timex Expedition for years - like, at least 10.

I've never passed a checkride because of it, I've never loaded the freight faster because of it, and I've never avoided ice because of it.

IT'S A WATCH!!

I'd understand if you said, "I'd like a nice watch . . . "

But, a pilot watch? What about pilot shoes? And pilot pencils? Maybe some of those pilot eating utensils for the house?

:yeahthat:

In the end of the day a watch is a watch. I have had so many, with fancy gadgets and features that I have never used.

I have a plain old Casio G-shock, 4 years old and I have never had to touch it, or even better, worry about it. $60

Like Steve said, if you're a pilot, then any watch you wear is a "Pilot Watch"

I really enjoy a nice watch (do not confuse nice for expensive <$500.00)

I have a nice titanium citizen skyhawk and I never ever ever use the e6b but it doesnt change the fact that I think it is a nice attractive watch with alot of useful features and I like the way it looks, feels and functions.

I also have a Tisot that I wear that is nice when I go out semi casual and a Rolex daytona that my grandfather gave to me last year

and I cant forget my work watch.....a 20 dollar coleman
which is so cheap I cant even find a picture of it online

bottom line...get a watch that you like and feels good and has the features that matter, even if it has an altimeter you will probably not include it in your instrument scan in hard IMC if you have an instrument failure

I had one of the citizen aviator watches that broke about 2 years after I got it and it was gonna be cheaper to buy a new watch then fix it.

Bought a cheapy from walmart and had it a couple years tell i lost it and I actually like it allot better.

Nice backlit display, big digital face, 25$

I'd buy him one of those and a good bottle of whiskey and call it a day.

But if you wanna get something that has to do with aviation than something like this would be cool.

The USAF issues casio g-shock watches to every one at UPT. So 50 dollars for that and a bottle of the good stuff as stated above. I don't need a watch but if you are reading this Elizabeth, daddy could use a bottle of scotch.

DAYum, that's a low price alright.

That's darned near a "I bought it off this guy that fences on eBay" price.

I was thinking about getting this one for myself....
