Pilot to TSA: 'No Groping Me and No Naked Photos'

I thought they recently revoked that?

Where did you hear that? They are still doing the program.

About the original post. I stand by the guy about this problem, but I probably would have handled this differently (a lot less poetic rhetoric). Simply put, they don't have to let you through and you don't have to stay there if they say no. If you don't want the "special", you are free to leave as long as you didn't commit any crimes. They (emphasis on TSA) are in the business of making sure only the right people get to the gate and have no authority to detain you. In fact, I believe that the agents here knew very well that they were taking a chance and that's why the EJ pilot went in circles with them about this. IMO, the EJ pilot made a simple question of liberties MUCH worse by complicating the matter and then proceeded to allow himself to be violated even more. He basically allowed the agents to do this and gave law enforcement nearly enough reasonable suspicion ask him a few questions. What would you do if you were law enforcement? Dig a little or just say "well I don't have enough reasonable suspicion here, yet so I'm just gonna tell him to stop talking to me." His complaint about the original problem is valid, but how he handled it was not very smart.

CCWs should be easier to access, but like said, with more training. The 4 hour CCW class I took covered the laws, but I will have to go out on my own for advance tactical classes. Just like a pilots license or drivers licenses, teach the theory and apply it with the practical. I think the gov'mt should encourage people to utilize the right to bear arms. Less crime, every citizen a more effective person in homeland security and for the sake of this discussion, the ability to carry on an aircraft.

So what you're saying is that you think people should take more personal responsibility, get more training, and go basically "above and beyond" the minimum standard in order to meet the new minimum standard?

Just raise the requirements outright instead of expecting people to do "the right thing." People never do the right thing. People do the affordable/convenient thing, and where necessary they will do the required thing.

Make the required thing more training. If you heard me ranting at NJC, I was advocating that people should be able to own an M1A1 Abrams if they can qualify on it. Why not? We have a right to bear arms, and I'm incredibly serious when I say this: properly trained and qualified, an M1A1 is perfectly safe in the hands of a citizen. Heck wouldn't it be a blast (get it!?) to be able to launch rounds across your property with that thing? Got an old barn you don't want anymore? 120mm of awesome should do the trick!

Were you ranting politics at NJC? :D

Just found this on the pipe and it's interesting reading, written by a group of Dr's at University of California about the radiation of the new machines....in April.....I didn't see it posted here but if it is sorry and just ignore it.

Well that there is your problem. Don't believe anything written on the Pipe, even if it's written by a bunch of doctors on UC letterhead. :D

As long as they don't try to wave me through an intersection when they have the right of way!

It was nice to finally meet you and Emily, btw.

While I have no clue what "the pipe" is I do share concerns with those who wrote the letter. Most people don't understand the dangers inherent with ionizing radiation. No one here remembers when shoe salesmen would use fluoroscopy to get an exact fit. That ended because it exposed a lot of people to harmful and unecessary radiation exposure. I urge all here who have a pregnant wife and are travelling to make sure she does not go through one of these scanners. You don't want to risk the chance of deformity/defect due to some jackass policy because we're all scarred of the turrists.

I just opt-out and then pretend that I "really" like it. Grunting and moaning, if I can physically get into it then even better.

We get enough radiation at this job.

If "The Pipe" is anything like the DALPA forum, the answer always is "six to eight weeks man, something big's gonna happen! I KNOW! I play golf with a dude who shines the shoes of..."

That's about it. I've only seen ONE thing come true from the pipe; us getting bought. The night before it happened somebody posted something about it on the pipe, and I told Emily about it. Her response was, "It's on the pipe, it's gotta be BS."

The next morning I almost pissed myself laughing when I read the press release. She almost started crying.

I have to say that a friend of mine who had cancer a year and a half ago, (he is fine now) goes for his follow-ups to the Grace Hoag Cancer center at Hoag Hospital. (he went there for his treatment and care as well) His Oncologist there, who happens to be ranked in the top ten of Oncologists in the US and is very up on all the latest treatments and drugs and participates in varies research studies, told him last week, specifically, not to ever go through any airport scanner because of some of the exact issues raised in this letter/document. His doctor stated that he has been discussing this with other Oncologists and that many of them either agree or are researching this more. He said it could be potentially damaging for those who have had radiology and chemo treatments. His doctor even said that he had heard and has had discussions with other doctors who are concerned and talking about the potential harmful effects for those with a severe lowered immune condition and some of those doctors are advising their patients to avoid the scanners as well.

The Eagle pilot board just has random rumor threads.

The common theme is "BIG ANNOUNCEMENT FRIDAY!"

Once it actually happened. We were all scared for days.

Don't remind me about that morning...

She wasn't the only one who was crying.
