Pilot Refuses To Fly With Muslim Men On Board

The word on the street is the ship was called back to the gate because the individuals in question were on a TSA list that required secondary screening in security line and TSA forgot to do it. TSA then met the flight, searched the imams, the cabin of the plane and when the captain asked what it was all about, TSA became belligerent and refused to answer the captains questions. The captain, with company backing, decided he did not have enough information concerning the security of his aircraft and refused to allow them to re-board. He completed the flight and has not been pulled offline for this mess.

If that is the case, then by all means good job for the Captain.

The article mentioned a "problem with TSA" but they "cleared us". Also, I agree with the idea that it's silly that the guy would push from the gate and start taxiing, change his mind and return and kick them off. If he was motivated by how they looked wouldn't he have booted them prior to closing the door? Did they do something weird on the taxi? Did they get called back by TSA? Seems like there HAS to be more to the story than this. My only hope is that Surreal was the FO.

That would have been poetic justice

If that's the case, somebody needs to make famous the TSA moron who precipitated this captain's response. Up until I read this, I was inclined to fault the crew.

Apparently the captain was booked on The Sean Hannity show a couple nights ago.

If that is true he is certainly a moron.

Not sure if that's web confirmed or not.

I don't care what the reason is, but if the captain is uncomfortable about someone I'm going to back his decision. Let the lawsuits that ensue after sort it out.

I think the airlines should require their captains to be a little more picky tbh, we should make a list of people who arn't allowed to fly, I will start;

Those who don't bathe
Those who are hacking snot every five seconds
Greasy hair that's going to be in my face if I sit behind them

Just found out who the captain was. I've known him since 1995, and he is definitely NOT one to be all humpy-jumpy around "ferriners." He is also not a product of any SJS school. He knows and taught me more about the E-120 than any engineer who ever designed it ever could. I'm more inclined to believe the TSA is involved, their denials notwithstanding.

If the guy is as reasonable as Chiapet here says...then I'm all for him going on Hannity and putting the TSA in a clown suit. If he goes on Hannity at least a lot of people will see it then as compared to going on CNN or MSNBC. It would be awesome to see him place this on TSA with a maximum number of people watching.

Do not give out blatantly crappy advice like that.

Never ever EVA EVA EVAR talk to the media about an incident that you're personally involved with.

1. There's about a 100% chance that it's in violation of the FOM
2. The story will spin to sell the most product, not to vindicate any decision you've made.
3. Your ass will get fired.

You may get your popcorn "Yay! The TSA is full of deeeeerp" but at the end of the day, you're doing the carpet dance and looking for a job after the hot topic of the day have shifted back to Miley Cyrus smoking crack behind the Waffle House.

How did "Settin' tha story straight" work out for the NWA FO in the "Flyover" case? Not well.

But I will have fun watching it on Hannity! But yeah, I guess I can see your point.

You know what I mean here!

As for Tenerife, the KLM airplane DID take off, so that doesn't count.

The KLM plane did take off, but the Pan Am one didn't and a lot of people from the Pan Am flight died too. Therefore dying on a plane that had not taken off.

I know...let me rephrase.

When a pilot makes a decision to forego flight, nobody gets killed in an airplane crash/act of terrorism.

What about the US sailor who was shot by the terrorists on the TWA flight? It was on the ground at the time....

Yes, I know the above is a stretch, but absolutes are notoriously not absolute. Except death and taxes. And the tide. And the sun rising....

You know what? Just forget what I said. Absolutely!

Tough crowd, huh?
