Good point.....I wonder if they seriously thought that terrorists we be so dumb as to highlight themselves by wearing unusual/traditional garb on an attack

I dunno.. I mean terrorists ARE pretty freakin dumb.. they turn themselves into human bombs and actually believe they are going to get a bunch of virgins when they blow up..

I dont know if that was sarcastic (I think it was) but they're far from dumb. 19 men challenged and beat the entire U.S.' system of security.
 
The article mentioned a "problem with TSA" but they "cleared us". Also, I agree with the idea that it's silly that the guy would push from the gate and start taxiing, change his mind and return and kick them off. If he was motivated by how they looked wouldn't he have booted them prior to closing the door? Did they do something weird on the taxi? Did they get called back by TSA? Seems like there HAS to be more to the story than this. My only hope is that Surreal was the FO.

Oddly enough, company flight status has all details of the crew removed from the system. I can't imagine one of our crews turning back unless the FA had a problem or the company called them back. Stranger things have happened I guess!
 
It's not inconcievable that on taxi out, the FA called them up and said something to the effect that there were two "terrist lookin dudes" giving her the stink eye and she was uncomfortable with them onboard.
 
I've been gate returned by "operations" before at the request of DOH (or more likely the TSA at the local airport).

Turned out to be nothing, but I had absolutely no say in the matter.

To be fair, a retarded three toed sloth could have beat the system in place at that time. They still executed the plan though, so...
 
Sadly, pretty brilliantly, but we're not in a war with idiots. Idiotic zealots, yes, but let's not lull ourselves in a false sense of security by thinking they're not tremendously clever.
 
I just can't help but think that there is more to this story. If the pilot pushed back, started to taxi...what happened? Was he overcome by an intense case of nerves? Doubt it. Did he even see the men that got on the plane or was he up front doing something? Now...if the FA calls the cockpit and says "These Muslims dudes are acting weird"...what are your supposed to do? You're behind a locked door...if crew input wasn't important, why do they have the telephone? My thought is that if one of my crew says something, I'm probably going with it - nobody ever got killed on a plane that didn't take off. Now, if that crew member was wrong, I'll probably be punished - but what good is having a crew if you don't listen to them? If TSA called them back...then that is that. Either way, I'm having a hard time believing this was a pilot that all of a sudden got Islamaphobic on the taxi. Something isn't adding up for me.

The math is even less lucid than that. I can see how your example is possible in theory - this is getting harder to believe for me that some rogue, redneck, Islamaphobe got that way between the gate and the runway.
