Pilot arrested shortly before takeoff

AMSTERDAM - Police say a pilot suspected of flying with a forged license for more than a decade was arrested in the Netherlands shortly before he was due to depart on a flight with 101 passengers.

National police said Wednesday that the man, a 41-year-old Swede who lives in Milan, was arrested in the cockpit of a Boeing 737 scheduled to fly from Amsterdam to Ankara, Turkey.

Lawyer Benno Friedberg of Turkish airline Corendon said the company had cooperated with police and had a reserve pilot prepared to take over the flight.

A police statement said the man had once had a commercial pilot license, but it had expired and it never qualified him for passenger flights.

According to the statement, the pilot said he was relieved that his misdeeds had come to light, and he pulled off his stripes at the time of his arrest.

Eerily reminiscent of the story of Captain Dudley in Fate is the Hunter.

"By the power of Greyskull, and uhh, these epaulets... I... Have the POWAAA!"

The de-epauletting is sort of equivalent to the breaking of Saruman's staff in LotR.

BUT, BUT, BUT John and Martha told me that Pilot's Licenses never expire?!? :dunno:

Question, obviously he was a pretty good pilot (stick and rudder) to not get caught for decades right? Here is where its going to get really stupid...think they charge him with one count of attempted murder for every passenger he transported over the years. The claim is he endangered their lives by flying illegally, but in the end they will take whatever they can to get him locked up for the rest of his natural life, or do the Dutch who are pretty liberal, give him a fine and make him take the test to get certificated....lmao. Which Airline? Do I really need to add the sarcasm tag...?
this one will be:popcorn:

I'm tellin ya boys, dem jets 'll get youins in trouble everytime, you should stick to da props, we aint big an shiney enough to get noticed....:D

The 41-year-old man said he had been flying for European airlines for 13 years and had logged 10,000 hours.
Police said he once had a licence to fly small planes but it had expired and it did not allow him to fly large jets.
Reports say the man was relieved his long deception was uncovered and tore off his pilot's stripes in the cockpit.

The airline said it had been alerted by police and had a pilot standing by to fly the Boeing 737 from Amsterdam's Schiphol airport to Ankara.
Dutch police were acting on a tip-off from Swedish authorities.
The man is in custody awaiting trial for forging documents and flying without a licence.

If the epaulettes hold the power, we could just sell them to the SJSers for the $80K and call it a day. No need to actually go to school and such. Looks like my retirement is taken care of!

They don't in the US. Europe probably has different rules.

Would it be possible to counterfeit them? Maybe buy knock-off epaulets from China for $100/ton? You're talking some REAL profits!

Yeah, but the Chinese ones have too much lead in them. Then there would be a recall, we'd have to hide in our homes from reporters, Oprah might do some big expose on the whole thing, and of course we would get sued. :D
