Piedmont PHX Flying (Part 3,294)

It's not that cool a place to live, and to commute you have to come in the night before. Rent is pretty cheap if you wanted to live there though. I once traded some Mesa buddypasses (they're free but can only be used on Mesa flights) for like 7 or 8 lift tickets at Telluride, because apparently the PHX-telluride flight we operate (seasonally) is really expensive.

Does the Piedmonster have long call? If so, let me tell you what you'd do.

You'd move to Vail (2.5 hours away).

You'd marry a ski instructor.

You'd sit long call in Blue Sky Basin, or the backcountry, depending on what you're into that day.

40 years later, you'd retire from Piedmonster a very happy man.

More likely 4-6 years, even those 200's have the same life span issues that the 100's have. Adding 6 junker airplanes (after we lost 11) does not a career airline make.

Mgt has looked at this several times but from what we were told in CQ this year, not that Farrow always tells the truth, the financials for this program are not compatible with PDT's business model. The number I heard was 6 million per aircraft. I think they would rather wait until mainline has the cash for a re-fleet then utilize this program.

Mesa has longcall now, 15% of reserves has to be longcall (at least 12hrs). I'm sure Mesa would be willing to sell a few of their Dashes to PDT after April. The Dashes are one of the few airplanes that Mesa actually owns.

WTF mate?! Even Mesa has better contract language than PSA. God we suck...

New news... apparently Piedmont management has stated there's a written proposal for 16 Dash 8 200s for Phoenix flying which needs to be on line by April 1st, no later. The training department has been running training scenarios to prepare special training for the mountainous PHX flying. This source is from a Captain in the training department.

Take it for what it's worth... just relaying info.

Don't make sense Jace...Mesa was only flying 6 Dash's for Airways out of PHX...It does not seem likely Airways will be almost tripling regional TP lift into PHX with the economy still floundering. I'll call BS on this one...Now a proposal for 6 airplanes would seem reasonable, perhaps the number was "enhanced" from source to source...

Mesa will have 16 Dash 8's availabe at the end of April. The other 10 coming from their United operation out of Denver. But I too don't see Airways increasing Dash flying out of PHX from 6 to 16. The rumor has been the additional 200's would replace some of our older 100's on the east coast. But I'll believe it when I see it..

Ahhh, that would make sense then..but man..another set of numbers for CQ!! Blahhhhh!! I'd rather just keep the 100's...

I flew an ex-PDT 100 and they're a nightmare. Maybe it was just this one. The ex-PDT 200s (still has the panel for the APU, which was taken out) have more comfortable seats up front than the YV 200s.

Did the ex-PDT 100s you flew land as hard as they still do now? It is pretty much good to assume that the Piedmont 100s (all the NXXXHA planes) will land very hard no matter how smooth you let it down but the ex-Allegheny airplanes (NXXXEX) almost always land smooth no matter how hard you slam it down! It's like the gear on the HA planes jiggle or something when hit and it upsets the entire shock absorbtion process... I don't know. On the HA planes the gear always makes a loud noise when it hits that ground and it's as if the entire cockpit is coming apart from the blunt force of the landing LOL.

Yeah, it seemed to land pretty firmly. But I was still fairly new to the Dash at the time so I figured it was just my crappy landing. The XXXHA 200s Mesa has all land nice and smooth though.

I didn't read the entire thread because there was some grammar arguments going on but I wouldn't be surprised to see PDT open up a PHX base. I was at a meeting this week and Airways needs the lift and PDT has the airplanes. You do the math.

Have any furloughs been canceled or recalls announced?

What we do know as fact:

-Management stated that they anticipate on recalling in the Spring.

-Management admitted they are actively pursuing a PHX operation with Dash 8s.

-Management is "taking a look" at the Dash 8 200s that Mesa will make available.

I am very skeptical that a PHX operation will happen, but you never know.

:) We have the planes that could get some utilization out of them... Any news on us :) hahaha Wishful thinking since we have already had this discussion this week....
