Pictures From the Ramp - The Sequel

I haven't posted a "ramp shots" thread since leaving my line service job at OQU nearly two years ago, but here's a few I've taken from the ramp at PVD since then. I've let my Flickr Pro account lapse (i.e. I was too cheap to renew), so I had to copy a few older ones from Facebook and the qaulity suffers as a result:

After packing the hangar at the end of the day.

Departures off of 34 roar right past our ramp.

Looking towards the Northeast Ramp, where the cargo and GA flights park. The 727 has sadly been phased out of PVD and been replaced with a 757 (which isn't completely bad)... The windows around the airport rattle just a little bit less at 9:00 PM these days.

PVD is the most convenient airport for the NFL teams to fly out of, and the charters park on our ramp. This Continental 757-300 brought in the Saints back in 2010.

Another view before getting the "move along sir" from airport ops.

The Patriots use a Delta 767-300, but will upgrade to a -400 around the playoffs.

Wiggins (FedEx Feeder) Cessna 208B Super Cargomaster cockpit... kind of like a big 172R.

The MS Jet Pull... various teams compete to see how far they can pull a 727.

I think a tug of war with the engines in reverse thrust would have been more entertaining.

One of my coworkers contemplates his next career move.

Air Force One crossing the threshold for 23.

Wishing I had better weather and lighting conditions, but still happy with the shots I got...

...and even happier that the Secret Service didn't consider me or my camera a threat to national security.

Parked on 34.

I made my way to near where the ARFF station is; it's nowhere near any main roads and somewhat of a secret... there was still a decent crowd there though. This was the best I could do through a chain link fence, and luckily the police wasn't around kicking people out.

One of these things is not like the other ones, one of these things doesn't belong...

This Gulfstream II was built in 1978, and about the only thing its Rolls Royce Spey engines are efficient at is converting Jet-A into noise.

Another Patriots charter taxiing in... being on the north side of the airport doesn't help with lighting for taking pictures.

American 767-300 chartered by the Miami Dolphins.

Continental 767-400 chartered by the Jets.

Not going anywhere in a while... I actually have an hour in this thing from 9 or 10 years ago when my flight school used to own it.

The closest this thing has come to taking off in a long time. I do not miss last winter's snow...

A NetJets Dassault Falcon 2000 letting it all hang out on 34.

I've probably fueled this thing once or twice in a previous life.

A Mesa Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 departing Runway 34.

US Airways Embraer 190 rolling out on 34.

Chautauqua Airlines Embraer ERJ 145LR reversing on Runway 34.

A nice change from the usual Barbie™ Fun-Jets, made even better by using Runway 34.

Another unusual sight at PVD... an Iberia Airbus A340-313X landing RWY 23.

IBE2940 touches down after a 7 hour flight from Madrid with the Spanish "fútbol" team on board.

Our newest hangar resident.

Soon to be a thing of the past... the last of the FedEx 727s will be retired in the next few years.

After flying all the way to Boston from San Francisco, I guess you can only hold for so long due to weather... This Virgin America Airbus A319-112 diverted to PVD before eventually continuing on to BOS.

United Airlines Boeing 757-33N taking the New York Jets back to EWR.

Sending a student on a night solo towards his commercial license.

Side view, with the help of my Sigma 10-20mm wide-angle lens.

Yet another view.

One more FedEx 727 shot before they disappeared for good.

Getting ready to head down to Washington Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. (IAD) empty. I was thrilled they parked it facing this way for once, so I was actually able to get a head-on shot for once.

That's all for now, enjoy!

Awesome stuff! I wish I could get away with roaming around with a camera on my downtime.

What kind of Camera/set up do you use? Great shots!

Thanks! I've been using a Nikon D5000 with the 18-55mm kit lens, 55-200mm telephoto lens, and a Sigma 10-20mm wide-angle. I've also got a Nikon SB-600 external flash but don't think I used it for any of those. The night shots are long exposures done with a tripod and remote shutter release cord.

Nice shots man!

Excellent shots, from the thread title I thought you were Dan resurrected!

Haha, I wish. Since I left line service I've taken out my DSLR exactly 1 time. I still have 450 photos I have to edit though.

There isn't much to shoot at TOL nowadays since BAX pulled out. It's a very sad and depressing place.

You sure about that? The airport cops have threatened to "git" you for trespassin'!
Eh, I guess. But its different if you work there and you're in uniform I'm sure. I've been booted from SFO too years ago, but never was threatened admittedly.
