Pick up my AGI at the FSDO

First of all: My experience with IACRA is excellent. Always fast processing and I usually received my plastic card in between 4 weeks.

But back to topic:
I went to the FSDO today. It was very easy and straight forward. I had a 8710 form with me, the written result and a passport. They checked that and I had my temp AGI certificate after about 5minutes... Perfect I would say.

Cheers,

Dude, I hate to say it but you are the exception to the rule. I've sent about a dozen students through IACRA since we started using it. Other than us not knowing how to use it at first we haven't had a single problem. Easier and faster.

I agree. The only time I've had a delay was when I did my CFI last March at the same time all the procrastinators out there suddenly figured out they needed to replace their paper certificates with the plastic card before the end of the month.

Just a general question. Do you just call the FSDO to schedule an appointment, or what do I have to do? I'm sitting on my IGI written (if I can find it since I moved), so I should just take it down there and the certificate.

Do they still require the FOIs? When I received my AGI/IGI, they required that I submit my FOIs as well...

If this is your first instructor certificate you need the FOI written as well. If you are already a flight instructor, you won't need it. You have to take the FOI written only once.

Did you end up having to submit your FOI results? Reason is that I had a friend who recently submitted his AGI/IGI and FOI results at his local FSDO... yet the inspector returned my friend's FOI results (saying that it was not needed); my friend did not have any flight instructor certificates at the time.

Yet when I submitted my AGI/IGI results, the inspector took my FOI results at the same time (which is how it's historically been done).

Have things changed? Is the FOI no longer required for the AGI/IGI certificates?

I had to submit my teaching certificate in place of FOI.

The FOI is still required. I had to give the guys at the FSDO my FOI as well as the AGI results.

On the IACRA FORM, it asks for at part 61 or part 141.. im guessing its 61? im asking because im getting ready to take the AGI/IGI written exams. do i need a sign off from another instructor, or can i do the IACRA as the recommending instructor?

I don't remember checking either of those. On the top, it was just instructor (something- don't have it in front of me). You don't need an instructor sign off.

Well, this reminds me of the "problems" I had at the FSDO...

He told me to tick "Ground Instructor" and "other" and write Advanced next to the other field.
In addition I ticked "Completion of required test", which I though was correct... Well, Mr. FSDO didn't like that and I had to remove the tick mark! We will see if this was correct when I eventually receive my plastic card in the next 3 months ;-)

Here's the lastest version of the form: http://forms.faa.gov/forms/faa8710-1a.pdf

Cheers.

I think it was just ground instructor I checked on the top. A friend that had done it in IACRA helped me one day. He got his plastic. :) I just took the printout and copied the same thing on the paper form.

I went to the NJersey FSDO a month ago for my IGI too, I took the FOI results + IGI results and the 8710 form. no worries if you don't fill the form completly, the inspector will check before giving you the temporary certificate.

The FOI exam is reqired to be able to teach unless you are a holder of a valid teacher certificate, otherwise you'l need to pass it.
Hope that helps
