Per Diem and Meals

Anyone here care to provide details on their company's per diem policies?

When hired my outfit was flying mostly local evacs with trip lengths of 100 miles or less, but we are experiencing a pretty rapid shift to longer trips. With trip length comes the issue of getting fed, and who pays for meals. Some of our trips are approaching airline leg length. Our current policy is worded in a highly subjective manner with no specifics as to what is approved with regard to crew meals when away from base.

Other than my current gig as a FW EMS pilot, my experience in this tranche was in the USCG. Obviously there we didn't worry about who was feeding us, but we sure needed to be fed to operate.

When I was flying FW/RW EMS, the pilot carried a company credit card for "incidentals". If the crew was out on a long trip/day, I just used the card and bought meals for us all. I never had anyone squawk about it. We ate good quality food but we didn't sit down at the best steak house in town either.

Ask for forgiveness AFTER you all eat.
