Pending Furlough

Man, I'd be spitting bullets I'd be so pissed about holding that ax over my head like that.

You guys did NOT deserve that whirlwind. I hope you keep looking and are able to find something a tad more reliable!

thats great to hear. i hope the company does well enough to stay afloat so you can get a new flying position. have you narrowed the list on who you are applying with or is it a barrage of resumes to every airline outfit in the great lake area? ill keep pulling for you and good luck.

It's a pretty small list. I am only applying to airlines that pay a respectable wage the first year. The list is about 12-15 airlines long.

Everyone is pretty mad as the number furloughed / to be furloughed seemed to change day by day. Needless to say, noone near the bottom feels comfortable anymore. I can see mgmt pulling the trigger even faster the next time works slows down. I will continue to seek other employement opportunities. Another thing that I found odd was that during the furlough we were still going to be required to attend recurrent and then SIM every 90 days, they didn't want anyone to dequal on the aircraft.

After several days into my extension, they were shocked to hear that I was on overtime. They thought I was just helping them and the sick pilot out. Fortunately, I coverd my a$$ with a call to the CP to confirm my OT status. This apparently may not be good enough as the CP has been sent back to the line. Rumors are he has been replaced but no offiical annoucements have been made about a new CP or the old one stepping down. Things are a little tense around the office to say the least. [/end venting]

How could they do that? If you're furloughed you're not an employee, were they planning on making you come in to stay qualed with no pay out of the kindness of your heart?

Were they thinking you were doing this work for no pay? WTF? :argue:

That's quite a company!

I was told we were to be paid for all training events...But who the heck knows. I was told they wanted us current so they wouldn't have to send us back to school when the flying picked up again.

As far as OT...I have no idea WTF they were thinking...

I'm glad it did not turn out to be a worst case scenario. I hope things get more stable for you.

are you still planning on living in detroit? are you willing to move? i hope everythings works out its got to be extremely stressful. best of luck.

Thanks:

I am not sure I would move for an airline right now. I would probably move for an airline if I was pretty senior at it and I was pretty sure that base wasn't going anywhere. Detroit is fairly easy to commute out of. Moving around when you are single isn't a big deal, but when you get married and have kids, family close by can be a life saver.

How's the foot/ankle coming along?

yea i see how it would be. family is something nice to come home to when you have had a stressful, long, tedious trip. i hope the freight company does not make stupid moves. so for now are you safe? i know safe is not the right word to use with the airline industry but it is the best i can come up with.

for the foot well i have three new pieces of metal and they are adjusting well. luckly i have no pain which is great but i get to have fun with a cast til thanksgiving. thank god it gets cold in new york in about 3 weeks i will be stinking casts out like crazy. thanks for asking though. it sucks seeing the team practice and play while my season and career now are over.

I am 2nd from bottom on the list, which is not a comfortable place to be. I am only safe as long as we keep flying. I would expect a furlough should contracts fall through or there is a slow down again for any length of time.

Glad to hear that you aren't in any pain and that you aren't stinking out NY. It was tough for me to walk away from football. It will gradually get better over time. Unfortunately, you will ask yourself What If questions from time to time.

Good luck in the rehab...
