In fact I have a friend working at Champion. I think he's still a check airman so if you're considering applying, I'll try to put you in direct contact with him so he can give you the skinny.

I you have 1000 PIC, apply to Continental. The PIC does NOT have to be in turbine equipment. The commute from DTW would not be too bad. EWR 737 FOs are off reserve in a matter of months. They have hired guys with very varied backgrounds, not just RJ captains and Military guys. The first year pay is $30/ hr, but goes up very quickly.

Spirit has a base in DTW, not sure if they are hireing.

WTF? isn't that the same company?? so is this for (I) or (II)? why aren't they offering a switch vs furlough?

This is why JC > all other aviation forums.

good luck with the job search.
Aggreed. Most of the time people here are really positive and helpful. Other forums are really negative. They would be telling him to just give up on aviation and run as fast and far away as he can.

They are technically different companys.

Kalitta Air 747's doesn't accept people from Charters I or II
Kalitta Charters II 727's DC-9
Kalitta Charters I Lears and Falcons under 135 regs.

The is the potential to transfer over there. It is one my last resort options. They have a 21 and 7 schedule and a 15 minute call out time. Most of the 727 guys can't make that. I am 45 - 60 minutes from the airport. The owner has said those that are furloughed may transfer over to 135 as captains, providing they are qualified and can pass training. There are a lot of unknowns and the 135 side isn't happy about 727 guys cutting to the front of the FO's waiting to upgrade.

Thanks for the suggestions and encourgement. It is now looking like I may make the cut [crossed fingers].

Oh, I hope so!

We know that feeling VERY VERY well. Bill narrowly escaped FMII by 112 numbers. Yup, at one point he was 112 off the bottom. Not a comfy place to be, especially with a wife and two kids at home.

I wasn't so lucky, but my getting furloughed wasn't nearly as bad as Bill getting furloughed would have been.

Well, you know what they say. You ain't a real airline pilot until you are furloughed.

And unfortunately I am SOL, for being furloughed runs in my family (along with airline bankruptcies).

My dad must hold the record for being furloughed. Four times. Yep, four times he has been furloughed. Twice in the '90s, and twice in the past five years. Who said 17 years at one company mean't anything?

Which reminds me, I need to sign up for AFROTC. :nana2:

Nah, that probably just means you've got a more realistic viewpoint than the average pilot walking around with his friggen sunglasses on his forehead, big porkchops and spikey hair! ;)

...that doesnt like to wear their company required hat because they spent 30 min that morning spikin that hair and 35 dollars at the salon getting it cut last week. Real Cool Dude

We'll I just received the official word from MGMT. All furloughed pilots are being recalled and I will not be furloughed.

I was set to get furloughed on th 15th then a FO called in sick and I was told I would be flying that line until the FO returned in 3 days. After the 3 days the FO called in sick again and I was placed on overtime for another week. During that time the company decided to bring back those furloughed and cancel my pending furlough.

The flying has temporarily picked up for now and some contracts are pending for future flying. Hopefully, they get signed. I am just wondering what is going to happen when the guys that took voluntary leave and military leave start returning? Hopefully, there is room for everyone...

Thanks to all for job info and encouragement, it is appreciated. My job hunt will continue.

thats great to hear. i hope the company does well enough to stay afloat so you can get a new flying position. have you narrowed the list on who you are applying with or is it a barrage of resumes to every airline outfit in the great lake area? ill keep pulling for you and good luck.

CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is great to hear...keep us updated on whats happening in MI (one of these days I might get up there and try to see on of you JC people)
