Passenger attempts to blow up Northwest Airlines flight..

Re: Passenger lights firecrackers as Northwest Airlines flig

Customs/TSA were just doing their part to try to get the .gov their $27,000 per passenger. :)
So who exactly would pay then, if the airline says let them off, but TSA won't allow them. Would it come out of TSA funds?

Re: Passenger lights firecrackers as Northwest Airlines flig

You can do anything in the name of national security...they probably wouldn't have to pay out a cent.

Re: Final Hour of Flight Rule...TSA

As inept as the TSA is, I doubt such a rule will actually see the light of day. Whatever rule they come up with (and they WILL come up with a rule) will be far more lame than this and will do far less to insure anyone's safety. TSA: The best illusion of security that money can buy.

Re: Final Hour of Flight Rule...TSA

Oh you would be surprised as to what has to be implemented - effective immediately

I don't know if it's been said earlier as I read just the first and last page, but I'm surprised he got off of the plane alive. If I was the guy who tackled him, it would be really hard not to smash his face into the floor until there was no more life in him.

Apparently, international flights are not covered. This applies to domestic flights only.

How violent! :D

BTW, wouldn't that make you vigilantes?

Re: Final Hour of Flight Rule...TSA

But c'mon.....the people will feel safe with this window-dressing. They need that from their government.

And the government needs to look like they're doing something.

TSA Motto: " We may not keep them safe, but at least we can make them be obedient"

Well, I'll just say this: I am the first to point out that not all Muslims are "bad," as some seem to think. The majority of Muslims are good people. On the contrary, there are plenty of Christians that are "bad" (witness the proliferation of the KKK, current Neo-Nazi movements, etc). I'll leave the plethora of other religions out of this argument. So no, the answer is not (as many seem to believe) to go in and invade Nigeria, Iraq, Libya, etc.

However, that being said, I am extremely intolerant of those who wish to bring harm to civilians of other countries, cultures, and religions. War is a separate debate, but it goes without saying that war will entail military casualties on both sides, as well as the unavoidable collateral damage. Terrorism is not war, contrary to what those who create it seem to believe.

Were I to ever have the opportunity to stop or prevent this kind of action from occurring, I would be 100% willing to do so. I personally believe that those who would commit these acts, regardless of motivation, religious confusion, or whatever deserve the absolute worst that humanity can cause them.

Oh, Patrick, I don't think you saw the sarcasm in my post. I am 100% with you and would absolutely do the same! ;)

Re: Final Hour of Flight Rule...TSA

You know....rules like this really start to make you wonder though. I won't subscribe to the idea that movies like V for Vendetta and that sort of thing are playing themselves out today. However, this sort of totalitarian regime crap that the TSA seems to think is ok to impose on law abiding citizens in the name of "security" is ridiculous. This rule does NOTHING but make our travel experiences that much more pitiful and annoying. It has nothing to do with security, and everything to do with knee jerk reactions to make Joe-public think he is safe when he travels once a year. Maybe next time I go visit my family in Europe, I'll ship myself via UPS or Fed Ex, it might be more comfortable in a box in some cargo hold on an MD-11F....:(

Amen!!

Re: Final Hour of Flight Rule...TSA

Thoughts?...I've heard this is something being thrown around by the TSA in the wake of the firecracker guy...

I think they should just offer complementary straight jackets and cage in each row of seats (like con air). That way we can be completely safe on every flight.

Re: Final Hour of Flight Rule...TSA

The only reference I've seen is a New York Times article, nothing more.

I wouldn't loose any hair or risk a weekend or irritable bowel syndrome over it yet.

My airline already put out a notice to all pilots about it saying that it's effective today.

Totally unreasonable, unenforceable, and it also asks us to make a P.A. explaining to the passengers that the new rule is mandated by the government.

This new TSA rule is so nonsensical that I do not even know what to say.

I was thinking that exact same thing. Or maybe overhead cameras in each seat and a TSA employee in the galley with a monitor to watch each passenger. Heck they could even beam the images to a master control station like NASA and watch every customer, then alert the on board air marshall. Matter of time.

It must suck to be an airline owner in this instance knowing the fed is totally making your product undesirable.

Re: Passenger lights firecrackers as Northwest Airlines flig

One of my friend's facebook statuses is this: "
"Thanks to someone not getting screened, out of the USA. for the last hr of flight on any domestic flight you are no longer allowed to get up, or have something on your lap for the remainder of the flight."

Is this true? I haven't seen it anywhere....
