Part Time Pilot Job

A while back a came across an job posting (on another site) that was hybrid between a finance professional and a pilot.

Basically, from what I recall, a large real estate development/construction firm was looking for a credit analyst/part-time pilot for its TBMs (700 and 850). I don’t recall many specifics such as salary or required qualifications, but it was basically a 3/4 credit analyst and 1/4 pilot work split. You could expect to several hundred (200-400) hours of flight time a year and have some access to the aircraft for personal flights. I believe that Simcom training was included.

Are these sorts of opportunities exceedingly rare?

And as a full time pilot I fly around 200 hours a year in my part 91 corporate job. So if I ever saw a job like this I would hope it paid well over 200k.

The ONLY thing about this position that "might" make it worth looking into is the " have some access to the aircraft for personal flights" part. Otherwise, this.......

Hope they are paying for it if they let you use it.
Even paying for gas for personal use of a TBM you don't have any other financial obligations with seems like a nice perk to me. So long as it is not part of the compensation package, just a benefit of working there.

I should note that I came across this job posting several years ago, hence the fuzzy details. I believe the company owner is a pilot and the hired candidate would basically be a back-up/relief pilot; hence the focus on credit analyst aspect. I am considering a career change from finance into aviation and something like that seems like it would be a good entry level position. I created the thread to see if other jobs like this may exist.

I once interviewed for a job that would be 75% business development for an Ed Tech company and 25% flying with or fetching the owner. I couldn't take it as I was (and still am) tied to the Air Force.

As with most aviation jobs, the plum ones aren't advertised.

Actually they do, it's called director or chief pilot of an operation. I use my years of finance for it. But be careful with doing two jobs for one price . Also, as a relief pilot in a part 91 operation is basically a goofier boy. And flying 200-400 hours a year in a TBM is a lot of flying.

200-400 hours is no where near part-time. For a corporate job 200 is full-time while 400 very, very full-time.

Although, this brings up a pet peeve of mine when it comes to part 91. Hours are not a great indication of your QOL. Duty days and overnights are a better metric. Flying 200 hours and having office work is absolutely miserable.

Having to fly 200 hours and do office work and getting more money is the key. Office work without more money is a crime.
