Anyone have any information on Pacific Wings Airlines in Hawaii? Apparantely they hire you at low time (400-700) to be a SIC on a Caravan (not a PFT gig).

Any info?

Come On Lloyd. It took me a few seconds to find my Google bookmark and type in pacific wings. Then I had to cut and paste the quote. That's hard stuff. Give the guy a break. ;):sarcasm:

yah....RUN AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Know more than one person who wen't there. And more than one that left within a couple motnths of moving there.
 
I'm curious about PacWings too... I'm sure you guys know that there's a website for everything, like Gulfstream Academy or Mesa Airlines. However,I rather get a better source of information than their website...

was that due to the airline or the cost of living...or both?
 
I have a few buddies that just got on with them. You sign a one year contract for $8000 which is pro-rated. When your not flying, they have you haul bags, work ramp, and even work reservations, or so ive heard. I dont think you can really survive on $8000 out in Hawaii.

Pay is 8 bucks an hour for throwin bags and no pay for flying which is fair cause its a caravan and only needs 1 pilot. The boss and his little buddy are both horrible people who really will use you. 14 hour days 6 days a week. Only getting paid for half your work and not enough coin to do anything fun in your off time. I've heard they ask people to "stretch" duty days as well as falsify time records. I did have a friend who wen't there stayed his required 6 months had about 1300TT with 500 or so in the 'van and was told they weren't goin to upgrade him. Check Flightinfo.com theres a bunch of info over there.

I've never heard of an insurance company requiring an SIC in a Caravan.

Besides, when did the insurance companies start regulating the logging of flight time?
 
Of course it does. The PIC does not have enough hours to meet the open pilot clause, so they are asking him to take a CFI or equivalent with him.

Happens all the time.
 
Looking deeply at the FAR's, they (61.55) state that SIC can only be logged in an aircraft requiring more than one pilot by the type certificate. Even if the insurance requires more than one pilot, SIC cannot be logged if only one pilot is required by the type certificate. I'm not familiar with the caravan, but if it's part 135 type certificated for 1 pilot, then a right seat pilot could only log the time as "the sole manipulator of the controls" per 61.51.
