Overhead Break

Yep I fly a Meridian out of SCK every once in a blue moon. But I havent been there in a bit. Last time I was there was 2 weeks ago I buzzed 29L in the Pitts to say hi to a friend.

Ah, your were the Pitts that has a transponder. We have a Pitts on the field that doesn't have a transponder, he is fun, but hard to see. Which Meridian do you fly out of when you do?

Do you work the tower there? Mark little is the guy who regularly flies those meridians but I left seat them every once in a while.

Yeah, I'm a controller there. Mark is an awesome pilot, he gives us everything he can, and understands we can't give him everything he wants.

I used to do overheads all the time in TLH when I was a CFI... in Piper Archers and Seminoles for the most part.

Saw the military guys doing them, watched their procedures- looked it up in the AIM... and asked for it one evening with no traffic. Sure wasn't the prettiest, but after a while it became a standard manuever that I utilized not only for fun with myself (woo 60 degree bank angle initial turn!), but also as a good coordination and energy management tool for students to practice with....

The Piper required quite close quarters to perform the manuever- typical altitude for the break turn was 800 feet for the most efficient pattern.

Sure was fun!

Mark is awesome he is a great friend and mentor. I was coming back from Columbia in the Marchetti and he was at SCK washing the meridian, he hopped up and joined on my wing for a bit of formation fun, we were gonna do an overhead break at SCK speaking of this thread lol. I dont remember why we didn't.

Well, darn, that sounds like something I would have liked to see. But as you know traffic at SCK can get weird, so maybe he decided to be nice to us and not ask for it.

actually I dragged him to LVK to do the overhead there the more I think about it hehehe. If you see mark little and another aircraft as an element its gonna be me and my superb peer pressuring techniques lol.
