Open Skies, shot down!

Mineta's step son was my freshman year college roommate.

Good news.

But it'll be back.

Hmm, last time I checked the EU was made of several different countries with different governments. They're trying to make it sound like they are one big country, and the US airlines are already committing cabotage. I'm actually all for a higher ownership in US airlines, as long as it doesn't top 51%. That could infuse some US airlines with some well needed cash. They even say that the EU is against cabotage. If that's so, then why do they want it so badly in the US market?

I got to meet Bruce Campbell a couple of years ago at a book signing (on Halloween no less). Pretty cool guy, and just as funny in real life as he is in the movies.

You never cease to impress me DTA.

Yes, Open Skies will be back, there is no way about it. As the world grows we will need to grow with it. Ironically, it was the U.S. who introduced Open Skies. Back in the expansionist time we wanted our goods and people everywhere. Now, are we becoming isolationists?

If being an Isolationist means that jobs and money stay here, well I’m all for it. The Bureaucrats in the EU can run Europe (which they can't seem to do with any aplomb), but I don’t want them to have any say in US industry or commerce.

I don’t feel that we should give up our Sovereign right to govern ourselves to Bureaucrats across the Atlantic, or the Pacific for that matter.

I don't pretend to be enlightened, I’m a realist. World Government is a big a pipe dream as communism, it will never work.

But what if it could work - would you support the idea then??

Even if it could work i dont want some dicatator in the middle east having an influence in running my country like it works in the UN. I don't want my tax dollars going to fix a pipe in Cambodia when people in my own country need the help.

No doubt, Ophir! That post slipped right past me! Where ya been bro?

A friend of mine met Mineta. She's such a goofball. She was riding one of the people movers at IAD, and she had on reindeer antlers because it was Christmas time. So she sees this Japanese guy, and he's smiling at her antler ears. She's a very sociable woman, so she goes up to him and starts talking to him, and they start chatting.

She figured that he was some guy working for an airline, because he had his badge on just like she did. So she goes up to him, and says, "and what airline do you work for, Mr." -- and here she grabs his badge -- and she then stammers out "Mineta" as her face turns ten shades of red.

Hey DTA, I support ya brother! Why do you think so many people love to hate us over there? We have the freedom and the power that some over there are extremely jealous of. They would like nothing better than to get their hands on the ability to have some say in our country.

Even with some of the problems we have here, its nothing compared to the ones they are dealing with over there. $2.00+ a gallon for gas, how about $4.00+ over there. Beware of the "New World Order", when I here talk of this I get extremely nervous. Remember, freedom doesn't come free--following the crowd is the surest way to mediocrity!

Dudes and Dudettes,

Sorry for the lack of play in the world of JC recently. Alas, I have been living the dream and putting in twelve hour days as a CFI here in SLC. If you can believe this, I am eight weeks into this and I have just over 100 hours dual given! Things are going great but my freetime is limited to text messages in between landings. Although, despite the lack of freetime, I am checking in all the time, lurking is it may be.

I just completed a class with Embry-Riddle on Commuter Aviation, it was really good. In that class I gave a presentation on Open Skies, it future and past. It is pretty amazing.

DTA, good to see you outside the Squawk Box/Lavatory. Read into the name isolationist and see the very essence of the position. It has never worked in the past and there is no way it will work now. We cannot be the number one GDP with a trade deficit of 500B/yr and tell other countries we want to be left alone. Who do you think buys that debt every year? Your positioning on the right seems just like the majority of that party, based solely on how much you pay in taxes or how much your parents paid in taxes. In both situations your entire basis is greed! Wake up and see that the world turns beneath you and we are all in this together, one way or another. You can preach American this or that, but don't forget we have gotten where we are by the very fact that we had, at one point, a very open trade and immigration policy.

Let's see what our stance is with China on the Open Skies policy in the near term. China, by virtue of both their growth in population and economy will over take the US in GDP in about 15 year, maybe 20. Once that fact becomes reality where will be with our own iron curtain policy surrounding ourselves clasping to the dream that we once were the best?

One more point, if any of you are afraid of the EU with regards to Open Skies you should really reconsider. The EU has dug themselves a trench. The amount of entitlements that the governments there have approved will never be able to be financed. It will not be too long before their economy heads south and make the current US recession look like a play day. The problem with entitlement spending (take note GW) is that once you provide a class or age group with a benefit you cannot take it away or modifiy it. The EU will take 20 years to out live the current internatl policies.

The EU has its own growing pains to get through and we should be in constructive talks with them to Open Skies without eliminating cabotage agreements. Meanwhile, Asia is where we should be focused and putting a lot of attention. The Open Skies potential in to South Asia, India, and China would make any republican sit up and notice, that is, if they get out of the lavatory.

[/ QUOTE ]yeah.. they do have really high gas prices.. but they also have good mass transit.. us, we're screwed in the 'mass transit" arse.. we have no choice but to walk/drive/bus or plane it everywhere.. if we had the train system they have in their countries, no one would be driving anymore!

One thing about America is that we about ten times the size of all of Europe. A transit system like Europe has would bankrupt the entire world. We are having a hard enough time with hub and spoke in aviation.

DTA, I do like that avatar. Although, i never realized that they all have instruments. I guess the photos I had seen before must have been photoshopped.
