One Union

My Understanding of what happened at Spirit is that they were a part of local 540. The president of 540, who I don't know personally, is a Republic dispatcher who has an infamous reputation among people who have worked with him. My understanding is that he has told the Spirit dispatchers that they make too much and are overpaid. If this is true, its not hard to see why this vote was unanimous.

Wow. Not surprising at the NK group telling TWU to pound sand considering there line dispatchers have the lowest pay scale of the ULCC/LCC group.

AA is such a hot mess, even with a new union they are still going to be the corrupt crack pot they are today. If anything, they want to switch to PAFCA so they can be even more autonomous and continue to fleece their members rather than support them.

This guy knows what's up.

I don't agree with that. My feeling is that most people are sick of the TWU international and want a change. This is true of both the LUS and LAA dispatchers

What do you base your feeling on? The argument that the international sued members who at best appeared to be doing something illegal?

Or the false argument that, "We can't get x, y, or z because we're in the TWU along with other work groups"?

Sounds to me you're buying into the lies spread by a few who havea personal vendetta against the TWU and want a union with no international oversight.

Why are you sick of the TWU International? How has the international wronged you?

Conversely, how is PAFCA going to solve anything?

I heard the section chairman, a long time hard core TWU Guy, resigned because he couldn’t support the international any longer.

Maybe Big Fellor should ask him why he is sick of the international.

I think there may be some benefit by having an association that solely represents dispatchers and I think the more important factor is the relationship between management and the union or association. AA is unlike any of the other airlines in that the dispatchers are lumped in with over 30,000 other ground employees represented by TWU and the TWU INTL controls all of the negotiations for each local. It's a dynamic that hasn't been in the best interests of the dispatchers in the past and I don't see anything changing if TWU wins the election. If PAFCA wins the election, the future will depend on the elected leaders and the relationship they develop with management. No matter what happens at AA, I do wish PAFCA success with all the dispatchers that they represent.

If you feel this way I highly encourage you to step up and get involved with this new group. There is no better time than this to step up. You will be starting your own new local, why not get in on the ground floor. Why trust someone to work for you when you could be on the inside solving problems.

Personally I read every line of the contract, attend every meeting and stay up to date on items posted on our website.

I say you step up and vote anyone you view as crack pot out right away.

This applies to every union shop. Get involved instead of sitting back expecting someone else to step up or at least support your elected officials.

Regardless of what Union you belong too, the people who are at the table to bargain for you make a big difference, don't just settle just because - settle because it means something.

At the end of the day - it's more of quality of life for me.

I’m not sure CPZ is an American Dispatcher

I couldn't agree more with this. This gives AA dispatchers a fresh start and hopefully put some of the nonsense behind them. Many people don't understand the amount of work involved in representing a group that has such a wide range of personalities including complainers. It can be a thankless job and thick skin is a must.
