One Union

Hi Everyone,
Not sure if this is the appropriate place, but it was the only place I could find dispatch discussions.

I just learned today that in addition to AA, Spirit is voting on going to PAFCA. I was just curious what everybody’s thoughts are on having just one union representing all the dispatchers in the US.

TWU is still out there...

Having a monopoly is never a good thing. IMO. Nothing against PAFCA.

TWU would still be representing Southwest, Alaska, UPS, and many regionals even if that happened. The Teamsters represent the dispatchers at Allegiant. So, there is no risk of a dispatch union "monopoly" happening any time soon.

True. Let’s see how the TWU handles this.

AA is such a hot mess, even with a new union they are still going to be the corrupt crack pot they are today. If anything, they want to switch to PAFCA so they can be even more autonomous and continue to fleece their members rather than support them.

Ok. Thanks.

I don't agree with that. My feeling is that most people are sick of the TWU international and want a change. This is true of both the LUS and LAA dispatchers, and I predict that as long as the NMB certifies the cards PAFCA will be voted in at AA. The charge you raise would be against potential leadership of a new group. That's a different discussion, although there are certain individuals who in my opinion have no business anywhere near power in a Union again.

The ADF is not a union in the strictest sense of the word. PAFCA is a dispatchers only union. I don't see PAFCA as a monopoly here the way its structured. But if PAFCA can land both Spirit and AA, you have four major airlines, plus Endeavour Air all represented by this group. That is a powerful force, and if you couple their work with what the ADF is doing, that is a powerful one two punch to have in Washington advocating for us.

I have some very strong opinions on this, but I will only share this one point because I don't think this forum is the place to be talking about this.

PAFCA does not recruit groups to join the union. They need to be approached. So if PAFCA is voted in at any shop it should be viewed as the best choice for that shop, voted in by the people who actually work there.

Bob,
Are you a PAFCA member? Are you happy with that organization?

Probably cuz the former TWU leadership were spirit dispatchers and got voted out last year I believe. Seemed like they all became disgruntled with TWU after that.

The TWU does a good job of disgruntling at times...

My Understanding of what happened at Spirit is that they were a part of local 540. The president of 540, who I don't know personally, is a Republic dispatcher who has an infamous reputation among people who have worked with him. My understanding is that he has told the Spirit dispatchers that they make too much and are overpaid. If this is true, its not hard to see why this vote was unanimous.
