Ok, this is funny! Drunk pax fights a pilot in the terminal.

A few things I've learned being a police officer: You don't argue with someone who is drunk or on drugs. Don't let your pride get in the way of sound judgment. They aren't mad at you personally a majority of the time, they are mad at the badge (or pilot's uniform in this case). I've had people attack me just because I was in uniform, only because they were mad about what another police officer did to them. Again, not mad at me personally, just mad at the authority figure.

No arguing with a drunk or druggie. Remember A-T-M? Im sure you do.

First, Ask them.
If that doesn't work, then Tell them
If that fails, then Make them.

One of our users on this site was with me when I used the "Ma'am, are you going to fully comply with my crewmembers direction to enjoy your flight quietly and not interfere with the duties and also be polite? Nope? Have a great day and wish you better luck tomorrow with your travel plans".

I'm still trying to figure out why he handed off the clipboard.
Many a time my clipboard/citation book has come in handy as both a shield and/or a weapon. I'm starting to think this Captain wanted his bitch slap!

Yes sir, the unofficial force continuum. Although, sometimes you have to skip the ask and tell.

Maybe its the Brooklyn side of me... but I'm all for that Captain getting his jaw loosen up bit. Just saying he invited the drunk man to a fight, and he got what he asked for.

Lesson #1.... Drunk people are 2-3x braver than avg person.
Lesson #2... A drunk person is 2-3x more likely to take a risk the avg person may not.
Lesson #3... Never challenge them! They will accept. Especially if they're pissed off at you!
Lesson #4... Don't tell a angry drunk person to come fight you, expecting people to hold him back. Your plan may fail!
Lesson #5.... Don't expect to win a fist-fight if your last fist / wrestling match was in Junior/High School.
Lesson #6... You think you have big testicles. Someone out there has one bigger.
Lesson #7.... BE HUMBLE... BE KIND to the best of your ability. We've all had bad days.

Did someone say "Give em the crazy eyes?"

This usually get s the point across:

The Captain got what he deserved. Instead of defusing the situation he escalated it. Not only was the drunk sitting down, he was even reasonable enough to say "Too bad TSA is right over there so I'm not going to do anything." And the Capt basically replies 'Come at me bro.' And now it's all on tape. What an asshat!

Eh...I go both ways.

Professionally, its not a good idea to keep yourself in a situation like that. But there is absolutely no damn excuse for acting the way the drunk guy did. I'm not saying that the captain should have just laid him out, but I don't understand why people are giving the captain more of a hard time than the drunk idiot that started it all.

Yesterday I was enjoying my lunch on C concourse in IAD when a passenger came running up to the gate. He had just barely missed his flight and decided to make a scene. Slamming his fists on the counter, pacing back and forth in an aggressive manner, etc. There is absolutely no reason to act like that as an adult. If someone had put him on his ass it probably would have been deserved.
