Oil quantity and FBO attitude

not sure but my club always keeps our pa28-140 at 6qt, minimum is 2qt....I can't imagine flying the plane with only 2qt.

I very well could be wrong but for some reason I don't think it is legal to dispatch/take off with 2 quarts. I thought that the 2 quarts was like minimum safe level. Meaning if you blow out an oil line or something or any type of oil leak and it maintains a level of more than 2 quarts then it won't cause internal damage. If it goes under 2 quarts maintenance has to tear it down because internal damage is likely. Like I said may be wrong but I remember some A&P telling me something like this...

Was there suppose to be a response to that quotation SBI?

Not seeing any text, or images. ;)

Nevermind, I think what you're trying to say is that it was THAT type of scenario..

Sorry about that. Yes, first flight after a very cold soak.

Do you really think he is trying to skimp on oil? It would cost him a heck of alot more money to replace a damaged motor. As big of a PITA you think he is, I doubt he would risk that, or your safety, for a quart of oil.
No, it's not about the quart of oil or the cost of it, it is about doing the right thing on my part and the right behavior on his part.

If the POH talks about 6-8 qt. then it should be 6-8 qt., isn't it?!
If this is not the case, it should be clearly noted by an A&P that this specific a/c should not be filled above 6 qt.
Also, if he doesn't want pilots to follow POH when it comes to oil quantity, why is he keeping oil containers in all his aircrafts?

BTW - the a/c is Piper Warrior.

I am the manager at a flight school here in SoCal, if the oil level is low I give oil to pilots to put in the plane. At the end you are the PIC and if you think not putting oil in the aircraft will jepordize the safety of your flight then you simply walk back into the FBO give the a**hole owner the keys and walk out forever.

If your engine quits on you or something realted to the engine gives up inflight then you'll be glad you took this advice. If the owner is ready to bend the rules and minimums for his profit then screw him and give your business to someone who understands aviation.

Hey I just wanted to say hi. My name is matt. Im originally from covington. Ive been in the army for the last 6 years and I only have 10 months left. just trying to talk to some people from memphis to see what kind of flying opportunities there are. Thank for your replies.

Hi Matt...you're going to want to start a whole new thread and introduce yourself in the member announcements forum. you'll get a lot more replies and welcomes than you will in this "oil" thread. :D

Most 0-320's and 360's are fine with 6 or 7 quarts but it is a bad idea to fly with less than six. The 0-235's do not fly with less than four. Might be able to get away with less with the 0-320's and 360's but I would not do it.
