Sounds like a lot of paranoia. I'm definitely not looking forward to the next 6 months but also think some people need to chill the way they fear this thing. Have yet to see a reason why we should be preparing for doomsday.
Think about it like this; the problem with this virus isn't that it kills a large number of patients, it's that it kills 3% but sticks around long enough to get passed on.
A high number of fatalities will be driven by exposure.
Or think about it in outdoor sports terms. If 40% of the planet rode crest trail, then we'd see a huge number of people dying on mountain bikes. Or if 40% of the planet climbed BCC, we'd see a huge number of people dying while climbing.
It's the amount of people exposed that drives how many people die.
How's that relate to the economy? China is paranoid enough about this to shut down their entire economy over it. That's done, so now the market is baking in the correction for that stoppage that already exists, even though we haven't felt it yet.
Why'd china crap their pants? Because 40% of 1 billion is 400 million, and 3% of that is 1.2 million people.
It's hard to hold on to power when 1.2 million people in your country die suddenly.
Here's the 40% number:
Harvard scientist: coronavirus pandemic likely will infect 40-70% of world this year
3% is a wag, but it also isn't you that dies; it's me and my daughter because we have asthma. I mean I think we'd probably survive this, but we're the ones in the high risk category for any kind of respiratory illnesses.
