You guys wear flight suits too! I'm not sure a 250# 767 ER captain is going to look right in "the bag".
Did you miss the part about wearing the leather jacket also with the dress/office uniform? I think it looks sharp there, too...which is why I think that it's very stylish for airline uniforms, as well.

Hats are to be worn in the public view, I think. Contrary to popular belief, the airlines are not the military.
Military or civilian, wearing a hat indoors is tacky and bad etiquette, unless under some specific circumstances.
