Yesterday while waiting for my flight to board out of Terminal B at IAH, I saw a regional pilot. Not only was he wearing a backpack, ear buds from an Ipod in both ears, and spiked hair, he was wearing sunglasses. :whatever::confused::dunno::cwm27:

Naturally, the ipod was playing this...

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of major airline pilots that look like dorks too! :)

He was probably trying to imagine his flight to take granny to Dayton was a combat mission.

It's not a job, it's an attitude.

Just about every commuting UPS pilot I see carries a backpack. Those guys are really giving us all a black eye.

:sarcasm:

Sadly, it's spreading to the major airlines, as well. I've seen several of our guys walking around with backpacks, and even one or two strolling through the terminal with earbuds in. I'm convinced that it's all linked to the relaxing of uniform standards on the hat and blazer. Once you allow pilots to wear a leather jacket and no hat, everyone thinks it's ok to start slouching.

every time i venture into a terminal, i see more mainline pilots with backpacks than regional pilots. just sayin... thats my observation. having done a ton of jumpseating with southwest, it seems every single crew i flew with had at least one backpack, many times both pilots had a backpack. aaaaand they wear the dreaded leather jacket. those southwest guys are making everyone look bad!!! :sarcasm:

A backpack? Like a Jansport in lieu of luggage packed with their change of clothes? That's kind of funny. Is that the current fad now for young 'cool' pilots?

I don't get what is the big deal about a backpack and why it's such a hot button issue. Why do people care if someone is using one?

I used to carry one but I wouldn't "wear" it as it's prohibited in our FOM.

In my humble opinion, it's not the backpack, it's usually the combination of forehead sunglasses, the backpack and the bluetooth earpiece that makes someone worthy of ridicule! ;)
