He's sorry because he got caught.

But the problem with a lot of airlines, including my own, is a sense of urgency. There have been days on my own campus when I'm, uhhh, involved with activities, where there's food trucks, a mini festival and free prizes and not a worry in the world. But then I look at my iPhone and Atlanta is in a complete operational meltdown and you would have never known.

Yes, there are people that are working on the problem, but anyone outside flight control could give less of a care it seems.

Kirby probably left a meeting somewhere, hopped on a private jet and landed wondering what the hubbub was on his iPhone when he woke up from his nap.

The story I heard, from somebody who would probably know, was that he was booked on a United flight but when it (and everything else canceled) he set up his ride out of TEB.

What an idiot! In this specific case, not for flying the private jet (he probably does all the time), but for apologizing for doing so. Other than the overarching important question of how does ANYBODY justify flying private, why is it even remotely unusual or interesting or newsworthy that the CEO of a large American corporation travel on a private jet? That happens hundreds (thousands?) of times a day.

This is a PR hijack, methinks.

I never thought when I see or heard of the CEO/COO or whoever important is riding in the back and think to myself, “Jeez, he’s a regular guy like me.”

-“What’s the point of having f-off money and power if you never ever tell anyone to f-off?”

Well, his entire operation was falling apart right next door. His employees were trying to help but the company’s antiquated technology prevented them from doing so. And when the crews times out, they couldn’t get hotels or transportation.

And while he was trying to get out of NJ, thousands of his customers were stuck in the airport with no recourse available.

I’m not a smart guy, but maybe just being leader-y and showing up to the s-show his company and customers were enduring might’ve gone a long way.

As with ski racers or bike racers, "It's a poor athlete who blames his finishing time on his equipment."

I'm in no way stating or implying that I have any idea whatsoever about the current woes of United Airlines. And, frankly, I don't really care. I stopped flying Untied Airlines over 20 years ago; Some folks see problems earlier than others, I guess.

But I can certainly state that in almost every human endeavor right now, the users of the tools available to them are using only about 2% of the available capacity of those tools.

Like I said, I’m not that smart. Can you plainly write what you are trying to say?

A poor athlete blames his finishing time… are the pilots the athletes? Is management?

Users of the tools available… who are the users?

You essentially blamed this on "the company's antiquated equipment". That was your lead paragraph. I mean, Untied's tech can't be any more antiquated than SWA's, eh?

My point is only that while the airlines are failing -over and over again- their failures are not a failure of "technology".

Something else to consider: The airlines are likely the world's largest single contributor to climate change (not necessarily quantitatively, but quant X qualitatively). And then, they blame their issues on weather so they don't legally have to issue refunds. "Refund?!!?" (see: Breaking Away, a bike racing movie). Full disclosure: I don't much respect Scairlines.

And just by the by, I sardonically chuckle every time I see a guy who works 12-14 days a month while making +$400K/yr sporting a "READY TO STRIKE" pitot cover key fob. Really?? Seriously, really? +$400k/yr, dispatch, Wx dept, lawyers, doctors, union, all-you've-got-to-do-is sit-your-ass-in-a-seat-for-a-few-hours-a-day 12-14 days every month - often as not with zero passion for your occupation... and you're "ready to strike"????!??

Some folks are in acute need of just a wee bit of perspective. And that group likely include almost every CEO.

Oh, okay. I thought the topic was corporate leadership. I guess it isn’t?

Sure you could sardonically chuckle. Or you could ask questions. You could have a curious mind. Your could educate yourself on the issues. Sadly, humans often attack things they don’t understand so I get it. I don’t know, maybe you’re against Martin Luther King Jr., and Abraham Lincoln. If you boned up on some history maybe you’d see it another way.

You got me, bro! I'm obviously the uninterested guy around here, yeah? Yup, that's me, for sure!!

I get crap for asking the hard questions, but now, in your opinion, I'M the guy lacking curiosity?!? LOL! Count my TL/DRs, dude; All to thoughtful, well reasoned responses that don't fit on a key fob or bumper sticker.

Thank you. You've enlightened me. I now fully understand the issue. It's me! Wow! Like I said before, mirrors can be very helpful.

Not to mention... If the issue is "corporate leadership", then why the heck did you not LEAD with that? You led with "antiquated technology". You fit right in. Probably a good guy to hang with in the cockpit for that "looooong week". Like I said, you fit right in... A whole lot of folks 'round here are experts at the dodge, parry, spin.

Sorry, I missed your "can you plainly write" request. Was that an authentic, genuine request, or are you just piling on with the gang?

Did you really, truly not understand what I wrote there?

If you genuinely did not understand, maybe revisit that "English Proficient" provision on the back of your license.
