Oh Kalitta..

Be a pilot, not an automation manager, especially when low to the ground. Fly the airplane through a go around. Fiddle fark with the automation later, like when you are not right near the ground. The jet flies fine without TOGA having to tell you where to pitch to on the ADI.

I was going to type Airbus FTW, as I feel it is a superior system and actually has a manual component to it, then I remember theres been some recent A321Neos smashing the tail on over zealous go around rotations.

The important thing to remember after manually advancing the thrust levers forward And thrust set…. is to check the airspeed and not to instinctively rotate. Once the airspeed is above vref then you rotate, After you unstick and are off the ground then flaps 20. All while the configuration warning is going off the entire time since you advanced the thrust levers because you’re not in the takeoff configuration. Positive rate. Gear up. Then Mash the toga paddles.
We hit this during our CQ at Brown this year. I haven’t heard of tail strikes being a big issue here but it was nice to see. It was interesting how much forward pressure was needed on the control wheel until we got the speed to fly away from the runway. The airplane being trimmed for landing is something I imagine most don’t take into consideration if you have to go around down low as well at the added thrust trying to bring the nose up.

Well, on the Airbus... :)
